    Good afternoon everyone!

So I just traded in my '15 Taco last week for a '17 model, identical trim, TRD OR, 4x2, DC. I've put almost 200 miles on the new truck, and so far I can't say if I've made a good decision...

    1. acceleration - ECT button solves this issue, I'm learning to like the new truck, work in progress.

    2. A/C wind blowing (whispering) sound - now this is the thing that bugs me the most!! I've had my 15 truck for over 2 years, never had this issue. It's this faint blowing/whispering/grinding noise that comes on every 30 seconds or so with A/C on, when I turn the A/C off, the noise goes away. it doesn't matter what speed the truck is cruising at, the noise is always there every 30 seconds or so. When the service manager test drove the truck, he heard the sound as well and said he would have the tech look into it. I got a call from them yesterday saying that all the new Tacomas they have on the floor are having the same issue. They drove 2 other trucks from the showroom and heard the same noise. Nothing can be done, they advise it had something to do with how the fuel pump is located, a design flaw. Can anyone vouch for this statement? Anyone has similar issues? would love to hear if there is any possible fix to it. - still working on this one, I decided to test drive another new truck from a different dealership, will report back the findings

    Thanks!!

The vroom you hear is the powerband hitting its sweet spot. This engine is not torquey down low, you'll get used to it.

The sound you're hearing is the A/C compressor cycling. It may make more noise as it's running than you're used to. It's normal and you'll get used to it.

Vroom is a good sound... perfectly normal in a 3rd gen.

Edit - you should take it wheeling... I heard good things happen getting 2 wheels up on the bank!

I wish i didn't take my 15 truck in for service last sat... somehow left there with a new truck with many unsolved issues lol. The service guy recommended me to turn up the A/C so i don't hear the noise but I don't ever keep my a/c on high... SMH

    1. That's because this motor makes it's power in the upper rpm range. You can somewhat get around it by using ETC button and/or S4/S5.

    2. Mine makes a noise on low with 2 out of 4 vents open. I open a third and it goes away.

    Welcome to TW

Enjoy your new truck, it is new!
You'll find it drives differently than your 2GEN so try out the ETC button as mentioned.
There are many posts from happy new 3GEN'ers who moved into the new design that there was a learning curve.
I think it will be an awesome truck for you once you dial it in. :thumbusp:

@splitbolt thanks for the pointer! I will give that ETC button a try tonight. Regarding the vents, I believe all 4 vents are open on mine, but I will double check and report back.

@Simon's Mom thank you! I've been lurking for quite some time, and finally registered today! I went from super excited driving the new truck off the lot to "ummm not so sure what's going on with the engine/ac/trans" but from reading everyone's advice, these are normal gen3 behavior and I'm sure I will get used it (:)

@splitbolt I tried closing 3, closing 2, open all, the noise is always there when the a/c is on low. think I'll get use to keeping the ac on high. btw, HTC button is working great, thanks again!

You don't happen to having anything blocking the cabin pressure vents on the back of the cab?

Traded in the last one, going to start modifying this soon.
Coming off a Jeep where the power band was at 2000RPM, my '17 took a little getting used to and I had to modify my driving somewhat. I don't even reach for the ECT button anymore :)

The AC doesn't make noise on mine.

However the hydroboost brake pulsing was weird but I got used to that, too. I thought it was some kind of gadgets warning me about closing distance when I first felt it.

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
What I do to avoid issue number 1, is when in traffic or running around town, is turn on ECT PWR mode. Makes a HUGE difference, with only a minimal hit to economy. I just treat the switch as if it is NOT a power switch, but an economy switch, and assume they wired it backwards. PWR on = my default driving mode, and off = economy mode.

Issue number 2 - mine doesn't do that.
