My stock Rugged Fails are finally getting worn out and now I'm looking to go bigger. Originally I was planning to go with a 275/70 17 because the truck is my daily driver and I don't think I need a E rated tire. However, I saw the Terra Grapplers in a 285/70 17 and was surprised to see that they came in a 6 ply. And I was wondering if any of you guys had any experience with them? I was looking at the weight of these tires and some after market wheels and I'd only be gaining about 7-10 lbs per wheel over stock. So they shouldn't be too bad on my daily commute.
I do like to wheel on the weekends though do you think the 6ply rating will suffice? Sorry for the long post. And thank you for any help.

You will have to put a lift on the vehicle. The 285 is a large wheel that requires clearance. You are mentioning two different tires from Nitto, Trail Grapplers (MT) and Terra Grappler (AT) in your post. It took me almost a years worth of research to figure out what setup to go with. I suggest you do some careful research.

I agree with the above statement here.

Sorry guys. I meant Terra Grappler.
I'm prepared to do the CMC and lifted already on 5100's and 885's. Dakars are on the list as well. Rear is on wheelers 3 leaf

I guess my main point would be, would a 6ply terra Grappler be okay for some moderate wheeling? I live in socal if that makes any difference

    Thank you

I'm curious of how many miles you have on your rugged trails? I'm almost at 30,000 and they are pretty worn. I think I'll replace them before next winter.

I've had my Terra Grapplers for almost 3 years, and about 30k miles. Commute daily, Venice to Arleta for 2 years, now Mar Vista to downtown. I have no issues. I wheel with them, air down, air up. All good. Never had a cmc but do have maxtrac spindles. These are 285s

I'm sure it comes down to preference or price in the end really.

Anyone have a preference with which design to display? The "classic" lightning bolts or the new design.
