Launched a lot of LCAC's out of the well deck of the USS Hermitage! Talk about loud the jet turbines are there in your face. And when they are in the well deck it amplifies the sound, it is unbelievable. Loved watching the LCAC's as much as the Hornets flying and launching off a bird farm. But those LCAC's are something special

Damn I hate the memories that brings back and hate that you're going through it. But in the end will be worth it. LOL I work at Mayo so of course that is where I was yesterday but your GF is correct and you made me laugh thanks for that. You're not allowed to laugh yet I'm pretty sure it would hurt you...

Back to packing somehow I got my old maple kitchen table and 6 chairs in the truck with topper on it. Those air bags and Daystar cradles are awesome! Admiral has a contract working in Australia and bought a house in SD so we can hunt out of it when he comes stateside. So we are helping him outfit it we will use it as much as he will. Now to get all my stuff in the truck too. So far 4 guns, ammo and Jameson are in the truck besides the table and chairs. Need the dog and pretty much set :) Actually I'm a gear hound and can't believe how much shit I have in there and to put in yet.

Those LCACs are FAST!!! I was trying to keep pace (at a safe distance) with one on the James River that was heading from Ft. Eustis to Ft. Story while riding my Waverunner that can do about 60 mph, and could not keep up. He probably wasn't even going full speed either.

I have flown in RF4C ( Incentive ride) fun for 5 min then it was ok put this on the deck before something breaks!!! C141, KC10, C-5 , KC135, C130 and the loudest and scariest flying rattle trap AC130H after we changed the gun mount. We got invited up to go test the guns and "sync".. them to the pilots helmet yeah FUCK THAT (sorry to the folks with tender eyes) as a structural guy when they fired that thing me and the 3 other structures guys were watching bulk heads and stringers for failure lol that thing shook like a paint shaker and was loud as hell even with double hearing protection.
Oh yeah got a short ride in a Black Hawk up in San Angelo TX I put it on the same level as the C130 a few million C-Max rivets flying in formation .. most of the time according to the structures guys lol

141 was a nice ride but web seats SUCK , KC10 nice enough , C-5 not horrible disconcerting when you first take off and realize your facing backwards lol , 135 meh about the same as a 141. Btw casper you can put 6 greyhound busses in a C-5. The noise levels are relative lol I worked RF4C's first lol they are proof of concept large enough motor anything will fly lol 600 gals of fuel to get off the deck and a glide ratio of 2:1 yeah it and a cinder block are rated the same lol:} . I will say though A6E's Navy birds are louder then an F4 in DS 1 when they sat on the runway spooling up to take off holy cow lol . Though, we were getting C-17s as I got out I never got to ride in one but on the ground they are fairly quite on mil power .

Sounds like you flew in a lot of military aircraft , I was stationed at 3RD MAW MCAS El Toro from 1981- 84

    I got to ride around in a CH46 Chinook , CH-53 super stallion , Huey UH1, C130 and C141

when you go to lay down put a pillow under your shoulder and arm it keeps it from trying to drop down to the mattress and feels way better I couldn't sleep in the bed until the therapist showed me this. also put a pillow, a small one, between your arm and your side that also really helps just loosen your straps and shove it in there. I'm still sleeping like that

    Good morning all.
I feel so inadequate listening to all this airplane and transport stuff.
    Way cool people.
But, I'm not a virgin to flying.
Maybe I haven't shared this but I am a pilot.
Was so much fun. Way to expensive to continue.
Type rated in 5 aircraft and I have my float rating.
Grab the float plane and fly to a lake. Sit on the float and fish. What a blast.
Was going for my commercial but insurance in my private life would skyrocket.
    Wasn't worth it....
I did get to fly a citation from the left seat. That was unbelievable. Freaky when you put the coals to it and point the nose to the sky and pull the throttles back and it keeps going..coolest part was touchdown and hitting the reversers.
    Almost home Martin.

    Bury that sob Chris.

    Mike flying them is one thing ...LOL As I am told as long as you get the front off the ground the rest usually follows landing however ... lol As a mechanic well we just loaned them to the pilots since well umm you make us mad we RED X the plane you are going no where! LOL To be honest I have not been on a plane since ohh 2002 ish and most likely won't ever again. I considered learning to fly but after learning how little it takes to make one become a lawn dart yeah nope! Hat's off to you being able to keep track of all the stuff in the cockpit and not hit a mountain or bldg or something lol :} I would have rather have had an incentive ride in a F16 but really just a take off rotate and firewall the throttles and then put it back down :} As I am told it is equivalent to launching in a top fuel dragster :}

Found out more info on that this morning. I was talking to my lead man about it he said it was because we had a guy collapse last year from a seizure and if no one would have been with him he'd have died and it scared the crap out of the boss. He's apparently not wanting to take any chances. That doesn't excuse how it was handled so I will be following cyphers advice and documenting everything and consulting with an attorney. Just in case I find out differently

Good morning all. If all goes well this will be the last leg of the trip. So we'll just take it easy, not be in any big hurry and just ease it on home.

    Morning all, great flying stories.

I am qualified to be a passenger on commercial airlines, took a lot of training but it is worth it...if I need to fly somewhere. I have flown on both Boeing AND Airbus.

My stories just aren't as exciting
