Definitely. Higher powered chips, and much better optics which translates to less light loss(scatter) and more useable light where it was intended to go. Now if you look at the BD Squadron Pro LEDs for instance, they pack 4800 lumens and precision optics into the typical 3" pod light size. A pair of them is about the same output as a cheap/common chinese 20" LED bar, but in a smaller package and once again with better focus. The Squadron Pro pods arent cheap at about $429 list price, but you do get what you pay for IMO. At least unless you like the look of LED lights EVERYWHERE on your rig to get equal light output; you could get a lot of the cheap ones and equal overall light output of the Rigid/BD but it would require a lot more of them.
BD does have the cheaper squadron Sport as well ($229/pair) with a 1800 lumen output per light which falls into a similar output of many of the Rigid Dually(typically $199-239/pair) or some of the knockoff cheaper chinese pods, but with the higher priced US lights you once again get much better optics, and the higher quality+ better support.

Now if you look at bars, BD has 2 lines of single row's. The S8 (slim) and Onyx6(near dual row size). The S8 is 4800lumen per 10" and the Onyx6 is 7350 per 10". What you start to see is that with the larger reflectors in the larger single row over the dual row chinese is there is once again better use of the light. The deeper/larger reflector and higher power chips in an Onyx6 allow for more light intensity and better long distance down range lighting. The shallow and small reflectors of the import dual row led bars cant do this as well (an exception to an extent is the Rigid Hyper Spot optics, they are pretty impressive for their size!). Rigid obviously has a lot of single and dual row options with different reflectors to get the desired light output.
I've ran a lot of the Chinese bars and the Rigids in the past, somewhat newer to the BD lights but I've been so impressed by them that I've picked up an S8 20 and 40" for our 4runners, as well as some of their Squadron Sport's and their compact S2 Racer(basically a 1.5x3" compact light with a pair of the Squadron Pro chips... 2150 lumens at half the side of a typical pod!) which will be going on our rigs. I foresee more of their lights on my rigs in the future

Great summary. I appreciate you taking the time to pull this together. One more question. Have you ever seen or have an opinion on the ARB intensity lights?

I have not seen the Intensity lights in person. In the videos/photos they look pretty impressive, but they do pack a punch to the wallet. I have heard that Rigid makes them for ARB, not sure if that is true or not. They appear to be a quality light(most everything ARB is pretty good quality in my experiences) but the large round shape of them is harder to package unless you like the look of a pair of round lights on top of a bumper. If you like the look of round lights BD makes round bezels for the squadron and XL lights. The XLR80 is pretty impressive on specs (@9500 lumen each they're 200 lumens more than the ARB intensity's) and only about 5 1/4" round so still pretty compact compared to the 9 1/2" of the ARB. List on XLR80 is $789/pair

There were rumors of that for sure, they may be similar to the original E series rigid lights but I believe Rigid has since made updates/improvements. I also doubt the reflectors in the Aurora are as good as the Rigid or BD.
@jberry813 what is your experience with the Aurora? Don't you have one of the SR40's on the Tundra?

Cutting edge was recommended by others in this thread. Walked in there yesterday and they had me done in about an hour for my civic.

Yessir. I like my Auroras. Have the 40" single in the tundra and 20 amber in the penguin. Aurora got sued by rigid for patent infringement on the reflectors because they were a strait copy. They have since changed their reflector design. The guts are not identical, just the same bulbs rigid uses.

So since Aurora had to change their reflectors, did it negatively affect the light pattern?

Honestly I hadn't even considered doing one from Aluminum. Would be light weight thats for sure. The steel version is only about 75 pounds though so I'm not sure how necessary it would be to build from aluminum. The cost would likely bump around $150 for the change at least due to the material and additional work it takes to use aluminum, not impossible though

Thanks. Yeah your probably right. At 75 pounds probably not needed In aluminum. I'm just really striving for a lightweight build. Thanks for the info!
