The waiting game

So how long did you have to wait to get your Tacoma after ordering it? or did you get lucky and they had it on the lot already?

Here is my story til now, I ordered a red extended cab TRD Sport September 14th, I was told 6-8 weeks, so tomorrow make 6 weeks. I called today to see if they have heard anything and still no ,nothing yet. They then had the nerve to say we have a '16 on the lot in that color that we could sell you for the same price..I was like WTF, which probably means I wont see my truck for who knows how long.

What they told me is that they will find that truck and have it sent over to there lot in exchange for something they have on the lot, and sense they are a large volume dealer it should get there faster than other dealerships, which has been a load of BS. So I went ahead and contacted a different dealer that is a little farther out and they tell me that they have had 2 red trd sports come and go from there lot in the last 4 weeks, and that they found me another one and could have in by next week. So I already put down a deposit at the other dealership but I never signed anything nor did they give me any kind of paperwork. Should I just go to the far away dealership? or wait it out a couple more weeks? My brother knows the sales manager at the farther away dealership so im pretty sure hes not BSing me.

 

If the price is the same and you feel it's a decent deal then go ahead and go to the far away one. Only reason to stay at the other would be for a better price.

To answer your first question, wait times vary a lot. Toyota doesn't make the Tacoma's to order. They have predetermined models with options that will be built at certain times and your dealership basically requests one of those. Certain regions get more of one model type over others based on previous demand and sales performance. Some dealerships get a lot of those requests, called allocations, and others get very few. It's based mostly on how many they sold in the past. These allocations and orders are only made every few months. So if you miss a window you could be looking at waiting even longer.

For me personally, I wanted a very specific and somewhat rare configuration for my region. I've been waiting going on 11 weeks and it won't be here until the second week of December. Part of this is due to the dealership not getting the order in in time and partly due to the schedule of the particular model being made.

 

I waited about 4 weeks for mine. Would have been less but I wanted a red one

 

I'm waiting about 7 weeks for mine.. put 500$ deposit down. Was up front with me about the wait time. Told him I wasent in a rush because I'm still in the process of selling my other car. Taking so long because I wanted the quicksand OR DC

 

I still have another 3-4 weeks of waiting left to do...

 

ordered Sept 25th, was told around 90 days. Didnt get an allocation for October, so I have to see if they get an allocation for the truck for November....hopefully I won't have to wait another 90 days on top of that.....

 

Put deposits at 3 separate dealers. 1 in June, 1 in August, 1 in September. The one that won was the 3rd that had a cancelled ordered on the pro I bought that they guaranteed shipment by end of October and I got last Thursday.

 

So you lost your other deposits then?

And what has got me so upset is they told me 6-8 but should be sooner, then when I asked yesterday, it was where not sure, we have a 16 still in stock that we will make the same deal with, then my brother calls his guy and he tells me give me a week. The only reason I was going with the dealer I was at,is they offer free inspections and oil changes and they are close enough for me to use those services.

 

mine should be here by the end of the week, ordered end of August.

If someone can get you what you want at a price you want, go get your deposit back and go get the dam truck.

 

They told me nonrefundable, btw all I can find around here are 6 speed manuals sport models...

 

Have they produced the truck for you yet? Check your state laws as well, in Maine they can not keep your deposit. If they get difficult, I would go into the dealership every day and start to annoy them, each time getting a little louder and don't be afraid to start talking to customers, this will get their attention. Its either you fight for your money, wait for them to get your truck that sounds like they have not got in motion yet, or walk away from the 500 and get your truck elsewhere.

Me- I want my 500 bucks and go get the truck.

 

Mine just arrived last Friday after leaving a deposit out of state (offered to travel for a discount). I guess my wait was a couple months. Ask for assurances from the manager that yours is in fact on order. Also, not sure where you're located, but go out of area for a deal.

Placed order/deposit 9-29-16. Truck (TRD Sport AC) is now Built.

ETA: 3rd week of November!

 

I ordered my black SR5 on October 1st and it was delivered October 20th. Not a TRD Pro, but it's nice - has everything I need.

 

Wait until the truck arrived, go and check it out; if you find anything wrong like scratch, gap between cab and bed, noise from front control arm or just about anything; you have the right to reject that truck and get your deposit back or choose another truck, if they have one in stock.

 

I ordered mine on Labor day and the production start date was 10/21... they told me it will probably be around 20 days from there to being delivered to the lot, so I still got a little bit of waiting to do

 

Non-Refundable? That's total BS. Get your money back from those losers.

Well good news, I went to the other dealership today, not only will I have my new truck by this weekend he gave me 1500 more for my trade. And he also told me there is no law in PA that they can keep my deposit unless I ordered some special equipment (ie turbo) that would make the price higher. So yeah I will be getting my deposit back to. I should of just listened to my brother in the first place when I told him I was looking to buy a new Taco.

 

Just got word that My truck has landed at the dealership, will go check it out this afternoon, dealing with bank stuff Friday

 

Nope the other dealers refunded since they couldn't guarantee any delivery.
