You can buy this stuff for ~$5 and install this in the fastener head and on the fastener of the cable mod. Adds 10 minutes to each screw if you try to dig it out and it hurts when you stick yourself with the sharp tool. I used this in the torques on my tailgate plus the tailgate lock.

There is no way to insert the tool into the not so common screw:

    Epoxied.jpg

The only other option is a one way or break away fastener, We are trying to source one at a decent price. The only way to get it out is a drill or saw cut the part:

Unfortunately no, so I do blame myself a bit. I mistake I will never forget. However criminals adapt, and I don't want to find out the hard way if they decide to pick a lock.

Just purchased... hope this thing does the trick.

Currently have my tailgate off in my living room due to theft in my neighborhood...

We are making some progress on the 2016-2017 plus tailgate locks. These are a complete re-design and change in direction, but do implement a lock and key. We will provide options for lock security levels and key types so you will be able to customize your selection. We are focused on security, quality and ease of installation.

More to come, but I promise it will be worth the wait. We will offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee or you can return it no questions asked for a full refund.

    Hope it comes soon.

There is already a thread recommending the McGard tailgate lock system for the 3rd gen, that is already available and seems to fit:

Understood. I know it is taking longer. Had a few setbacks, the one we thought would work did not fit the way we wanted.

Plan is to work this to complete this weekend, and have a prototype available real soon.

Got my tailgate device for my 2013 taco. Nicely done, no fitment issues. Definitely better than the hose clamp I had previously. The YouTube video definitely helped with my install.

I plan on either stripping the head of the bolt or putting some hard permanent epoxy since I've never needed to take the tailgate off.

    Great product!!!

Met up with a customer last night while I was out and about. Thought I would just install the tailgate lock he bought for his truck, but when I looked it was already gone. He had said it was stolen but he bought one back from some shop. My thought is it was his or one of the others stolen.

He had the clamp mod. He was not going to put the new tailgate back on his truck until he had a lock.

For those that have bought our tailgate lock, I would highly recommend you add the epoxy putty to your security screw and do the cable mod.

The struggle is real, thieves adapt. Everyone should open their tailgates up and etch in their vin numbers inside the tailgate.

Sister had the tailgate stolen right out of the McDonald's where she and her husband were eating! Pop-Lock now installed. Lives in Anaheim, CA.

    Sorry to hear this news.

The Pop-Lock is good, but having multiple deterrents is better. I have my stock handle and it will take the fool that is looking to steal my tailgate a good half hour to get it off the truck. That is if they are smart enough to realize it is not going to come off without some cutting tools. Anything can be stolen given time.

Yeah, but at least one line of defense is better than nothing. I will probably do the hose clamp and thin washer route in addition to my current lock on the tailgate.
