Fan clutch

    Shocks,struts, bigger tires, stereo system
    I have this grinding noise that is coming from the fan/belt area. Could it be the fan clutch goin bad

    Could be. But I think it's more likely that a pulley would be making a grind type noise.

    Now that I think about it, the water pump pulley, that the fan clutch itself is bolted to, could be making your noise as well.

    On a V6 the water pump pulley is completely out of sight. It is behind the timing cover and is driven by the timing belt.

    try turning the clutch fan with the engine OFF. It should turn with some resistance if its grinding you should be able to tell.

    I had a light grinding noise coming from that area. Ended up being the bracket that the fan bolts on to.
