Hi all, I'm looking to haul water to refill a 1500-liter hot tub 3-4 times a year autumn through spring (tub is shut down during most of summer). Water source is about 8kms away in town mostly on 2-lane highway, with the last 1km to my acreage on gravel, using a 2016 DCLB automatic V6 with an Extang solid fold 2.0 tonneau cover. I'd prefer not to have to take the tonneau cover off & on so when it's folded back and secured, by measuring it appears the water tank would sit over the tailgate by about 2"-ish. Tank size is 49.50" L x 31.50" W x 28.00" H. Looks like I'd only be able to put a 100-110 gallon loaf tank in the bed and then make 3 trips back & forth to town to fill, not a big deal with town only 5 minutes away. I'd consider a separate trailer/water tank combo but cost is an issue right now as well as storing/maneuvering a trailer in here once we get serious snow. With that size tank / payload do I need to worry about the rear axle, air bags, etc. or am I good to go? Any other advice? Many thanks! :)

A full 110 gallon tank would weigh around 900 lb, and should be within the capability of the truck to haul. You'll need 4 trips to fill a 1500 litre tub (a bit over 375 gallons) if that's the water capacity; being 40-50 gallons short would mean missing about 6 cubic feet of water which would drop the water level by a little more than an inch over a 10-ft diameter circular tub.

If you could rent a trailer capable of hauling it in one shot, 1500 litres of water would weigh about 3300 lb plus the trailer weight, which should be within the capability of a class 3 hitch, and is definitely possible with the class 4 that comes with the tow package if you have it, and it's well within the capability of the truck, but it is a lot of weight to stop on ice, so be careful going that route.

You'll want the weight inside the bed and no where near the tailgate.

You ever put a couple hundred pounds in a stock taco bed? Springs are shit on these things. By 400 lbs it's going to be on the bump stops if not before.

I had 5 adults and a 100+ pound cooler in the bed of my old '97 5-lug once for a very short run. I've hauled some lumber, tools and other building stuff in my 2nd gen before doing the suspension, but I'm not sure if I ever got it up to 400 lb with any of that. Based on how little it sank when I climbed into the bed myself, I can't imagine it bottoming out at anything close to 400 lb, but after 5 years, the stock springs were sagging a lot without load when I put on my Alcans (got 4-5 inches higher from what was supposed to be a 2 inch lift over stock). Not familiar with the suspension on the 3rd gens, but I'm assuming it's at least as good as the post-recall 2nd gen springs, and most of the reviews/truck comparison articles I've read seem to be claiming to have put at least 1000 lb in the bed of a 3rd gen as part of their testing.

That's a 1st gen. Second gen on were made to ride like a car with all the people buying trucks that never owned one because they rode too "rough". I had a couple hundred ponds in mine stock and the damn thing looked like a squatting bug. I have Dakars now and with 5 people in the cab all their gear for a weekend and food for 18 people in 3 large marine coolers with a bass boat hooked to the truck it sat level. With stock springs I wouldn't be able to see over the hood.

I had 750 lbs of deer corn, 100 lbs of ice, a heavy toolbox and two passengers and it did just fine. That puts her near the max weight (1420 lbs) but rode and performed just fine. Had a bit of a Bro lean, but nothing bad.

He spoke gallons, I answered gallons.

And you know what? The full tank will weigh the same either way! :p

Yes, but did he mean Imperial gallon or US gallon? :D

It was all a jumble. liters, kms, gallons... Just kidding around anyway.

Yes, but does the pound of lead or pound of feathers weigh more? :cookiemonster:

Is the conversion from liters to gallons the same as the conversion for inches to millimeters? My wife thinks this is nine inches.

In Canada the "gallon" is 5 quarts.... clarification needed.

More importantly tho is this which I did not know....Canadian beer bottles are smaller than US beer bottles.... hmmmmm I'm a bit miffed about that, I've been getting ripped at the beer store:
1/2 fl oz less .... it's like a 1/4 sip - did NOT see that coming.

"One noticeable comparison between the imperial system and the US system is between some Canadian and American beer bottles. Many Canadian brewers package beer in a 12-imperial-fluid-ounce bottles, which are 341 mL each. American brewers package their beer in 12-US-fluid-ounce bottle, which are 355 mL each. This results in the Canadian bottles being labelled as 11.5 fl oz in US units when imported into the United States. Because Canadian beer bottles predate the adoption of the Metric System in that country, they are still sold and labelled in Canada as 341 mL. Canned beer in Canada is sold and labelled in 355 mL cans, and when exported to the US are labelled as 12 fl oz."

I would look into a water truck delivery and do it all in one shot. Cheaper than overworking the Tacoma in the long run. Assuming you are paying for the water. If you getting the water for free then hauling water might be worth it.
