Honestly, from living on the glacier, I find the best thing is big heavy duty contractor bags. They are thick, cheap, reusable, and if they rip oh well NEXT!

after you pack them twist the open end end up and fold it over.

double bagging is another option as well for extra thickness lol

Trash bags look like...well trash. I did this occasionally but the waste of plastic was getting to me. Illl be sewing up some large dry bags for the truck over the winter. They will be light weight, durable, and functional. The other option is to just use a tote.

HUGE difference between trash bags and hd contract bags... one time only use of a contract bag is BEYOND WASTEFUL...

@3378jakesr5 I believe the question was keeping gear dry via a wet dry bag, not keeping trash stowed and or dry.

What about using one of the soft side car top carriers? The better ones are waterproof and generally pretty cheap. Just depends on how big you're looking to go for storage.

Like those made by Rightline? those are nice, for sure more dexterity than a contract bag no doubt. I would look into these if the gear was going to be strapped on top of a roof rack...

But they run about 100$ and up I believe. you can find hard box gear carriers from thule or yakima used on craigslist for that type of money.

If the idea is only keep gear dry in the open bed I would double bag with HD Contract bags and call it a day, maybe add a cheap cargo net keeping this within their place of the bed.

Upon a quick google search, looks like Reese and RainX both offer a big cargo bag advertised as water proof and both are under $50... that isnt too bad..
