I've seen state troopers with only one running head light. I also saw a a sheriff speeding on the causeway (that they don't police) using his lights so he can speed across it. We all break laws even cops, no ones perfect....

i think it is very annoying when people dont turn on their lights when its raining or even after raining, when the roads are still soaked. try driving a semi and a car is a long side you without their lights on, but you cant see them because of the mist being kicked up from the tires....

i really don't like drl...i mean i can see the car better if they don't have lights on...now if it's raining badly enough to make it hard to see just turn your lights on...that makes sense....it seems alot of people turn their lights on way too early when it's not even dark yet...that is annoying to me since it blinds me from seeing the road when i face oncoming traffic with lights in my eyes...but if it's sunny and lightly raining there's no need to turn your lights on since you can see fine

Seriously? If you can't see when someone else has their lights on, during the day! Then how the hell do you see at night?

Actaully it's been proven that having lights on during the day makes your vehicle about 30% more visible-Thus reducing accidents.
Plus you don't need to see the car-You need to know where it is in relation to you and which relative direction it's going. Lights do that (just like on boats and airplanes)

That is law in many states including mine. I am a truck driver and it is common practice for truckers to run they're lights 24/7. Cause like Brunes said it makes you more visible.

It's not the rain coming down on a contiuous basis, it's operating your windshield wipers on a continuous basis. As opposed to intermittent.

    (2) A condition requiring the windshield wipers to be in continuous use due to rain..

You can operate your wipers on intermittent with your headlights off (in CA).
It doesn't make much sense to me, but that's the way they wrote the law.

It's the law in Illinois too. I moved from there 4 years ago. Funny thing, I was turning on my lights when it rained before a law was in place.

To me, it's common sense to turn my lights on in the rain.

headlights make you more visible...all the time...period

especially at dawn, dusk, and in the rain

preface...yes...cops speed too...yes...cops fail to follow some of the basic traffic laws that are also enforced upon the rest of the motoring public...

HOWEVER...many times there are calls that require expedited arrival...but either do not justify running blue lights and sirens...or running blue lights/sirens will either create a potentially unsafe situation for a victim or officer...the lights and sirens can also serve as a warning for a criminal in the act of committing his chosen crime of the hour and allow him time to take off before we get there

im sure many of you who bitch about the cops speeding past you on the street also bitch when the cop takes 20 minutes to come to your house when your shit gets jacked or something too...

also understand that cops are HIGHLY trained to operate their vehicles at high rates of speed under high stress conditions...and us driving above the speed limit is a little bit safer than the average joe citizen who decides he's late for work

again...yes...some cops speed...and when they arent enroute to a call...its wrong...but unless you have a scanner or radio and know WTF is going on out there...then you have no clue if he's going to a call or not

Not while operating an emergency vehicle. It's an exception written into the law :woot:
