I have a 2016 Tacoma and purchased a Bakflip G2 from a local dealer. It has been a disaster since day one. I took it back 3 times and they told me I would get a new one. I ended up receiving 2 small boxes of sealing for me to replace them on my truck. Everything in my truck gets wet and it actually serves no purpose other than keeping my things from being seen by people as they walk by.
I contacted Bakflip customer service directly (twice) after my place of purchase did nothing. A smartass condescending rep from Bakflip called me. Sorry, "there is nothing we can do for you because the box was opened". What kind of guarantee can that be? Then the rep told me the ball was in my court and I had to deal with any issues on my own.
I have tried to put all kinds of crap on it to keep it from leaking, but to no avail. A total waste of almost $1000 and 3 months of frustration.
DON'T BUY ANY BAKFLIP FOR YOUR TACOMA!

Sorry to hear about this, but thanks for sharing. I was considering buying a bakflip G2 but now I guess I'll start looking elsewhere...

Thank you for telling me about the backflip. I was looking at it. Your reviews help me change my mind. I will be going with another company. I hate customer service that's bad

    Here's my story.
About 4 years ago, a friend ordered a F1 from bakflip. when it arrived, one of the small "D" rings was standing up during shipping and put a small dimple in the panel. Bakflip shipped him another one and didn't want the damaged one back.

    here's where I come in.
A little bit later, he gave me the F1. All I had to do was get a frame. Sounds easy, right?
I called Bakflip and asked if I can buy a frame only.
Well, the person I talked to refused to sell me a frame and was snotty as hell. That right there was a turnoff.
I ended up finding a frame on E-Bay for 180 bucks.
All is well.....for a few years.

last Winter, I noticed the panels had ripples in them. Hmm, what can this be?
Took the Bakflip off in the Spring and noticed it was about twice the weight it was originally.
Stood it on end and here came the water.
All the panels were waterlogged and water weeped out for over a week.
Don't know how all that water got into all the panels, but it did.
I'm just happy i didn't pay a grand for it.
BTW, I have a Softopper now and am happy with it.

sorry to hear about your experience man, I got the Bakflip Fibermax and I must say I am most certainly satisfied. works great and very minimal water gets in. the only thing I didn't like was that in the catalog it says it comes with straps to secure the final flip without standing it up, but no straps, just little d rings to throw a bungee on

@Niner1969 those are the kinds of straps I was hoping for. but at least they put little d rings so I can use a rubber bungee to secure it down. yours looks almost identical, the only difference I can spot if the backflip when standing up on end rests against the cab giving a little more bed space, not much by the looks of it haha only a couple inches

The first batch of bakflips on the 3rd gen were a fail.

You probably got one of the first ones.

They redesigned it after customer complaints and ended up fixing their issues

That back flip had complaints from leaning on the back of the cab. And making rubbing marks on the paint. Make sure you put a pad back there protect your truck. That's why I undercover stops her from hit the cab. I only have 2 Star knobs in the front of the cab..un Screw and the top comes off

the complaints must be why mine has foam pads on it to prevent rubbing, came like that from backflip, thankfully haha I did notice I have two knobs by my cab aswell, never checked to see if it was for ease of removal.

I was going to get a backflip MX4 installed on my 3rd gen but the representative at line-x convinced me to go with their brand of tonneau cover called truck gear. Apparently it's a modified backflip fibermax rebadged under their brand but the tipping point for me was that it comes with a lifetime warranty through line x for both labor and parts. Loving it so far. We haven't had any rain yet but I've taken it through the car wash a couple times and it was very minimal leaking just from the two corners near the cab.
