SixthSnail has it right. Depending on the type of trailer, most are a basecamp style (except those Conquerer and Adventure Trailers, etc). I'm not planning to drag my teardrop across boulders or up Gold Mountain. Most of my camping is done where a stock SUV can go and then I run harder trails out of camp. My upcoming Baja trip is a good example: my trailer will allow me to show up late, pop inside and sleep within a minute. In the morning, I just pull out the stove and make coffee. After the ensuring bathroom break, I just close the lid and get in the Jeep. Then, you can get fancier by building out a water/shower system, stereo, kegerator haha. Go wheeling all day, come back and shower and cook a dinner. Sleep on a killer mattress with sheets and then just close the lid and go in the morning.

Yes, you can do this in your pickup by sleeping in the bed (if you have a platform or minimal gear taking up space), or a RTT and just put a stove on the tailgate. I like the hard sides and insulation (warmth) and I just ordered a 4" foam folding mattress which converts to a little sofa if I'd rather sit inside on a wet morning and read. If it's terribly windy, hard sides are awesome since there's no flapping tent and is much more peaceful.

I read through Jeffs build last night, pretty awesome what he did. I dont think I will go that upscale. I just want somewhere to sleep and load a bunch of junk in. But it got me thinking about adding a sink, and maybe a water heater. End of the thread was sad though :(

Probably gonna go down to filmore and look at some this weekend.

Yea, that was a bummer. I personally don't want a sink. I still lean towards paper plates and disposables. It's just so much easier, especially if you are trying to conserve water (besides a shower). I also make a mess when I do dishes. I've got a neat Byer of Maine tripod sink, but I never use it. Again, most of my camping is just for the weekend so disposables are much easier. Except cups. Can't go wrong with a good mug, obviously.

Yeah I dont wanna do dishes, so I guess I wouldnt need a basin/sink. I just want a hand washing station.

Yes, and it all depends on people's idea of a dirt road. I'll be dragging my trailer out to Coyote Flat and other 4x4 trails, but what's the point of a trailer up something like John Bull? You're right, just bring a tent. A trailer is a luxury. I'd love to do a Rubicon trip next year, and I definitely won't bring the trailer for that. When I go to Big Bear, I'll definitely bring the trailer back into Holcomb Valley.

Sometimes. Most places I camp don't have people because they are so far off a main road. Still not hard to get to though. Just far.

In those cases, I'd like having a trailer. In most cases I'm happy with my RTT though.

Here's a $3,500 trailer. It's basic and shows how easy it can be done!

Is anyone interested in a Pelican brand 1650 case? Was previously used to house my scuba gear in the garage and in transit. Great condition. Asking $125

Looks like a good time! No rain out there?
I just hope they re-open the hot springs road by next weekend. I'm going out for a friend's birthday!

No rain but it was coming. We made the long haul home Wednesday night because it was supposed to Thursday.

Is anyone planning to go to Turf-and-Surf in Pismo Nov 11-13? I was already planning to go up for the day on the 12th with my dad who is visiting. Looks like a fun event! I'm hoping to bring the bbq and make lunch on the beach.
And yes, I'm aware it's a predominantly Land Cruiser event...
