I think we are getting a little out of hand here. Yes its a man made product but also this can be solved by a small change in the mold. I wish mine was flush with the cab but I have learned to live with it. There are others out there who, while I understand, are paying a lot of money for the product and they want it to be perfect. To each their own but its not that big of a deal IMO.

I have just gotten used to that everyone on TW is either a lawyer or an Executive at Toyota and everything we post on here is in violation of their rules.

There are a few reasons I went Leer over ARE, and the wedge look was on that list. Pretty far down the list, but something I had noticed when looking at different caps. It may be a non issue to most people, but when there's an alternate route I can go that I find more aesthetically pleasing that's going to be a part of the decision process.

Referring to the Leer or the ARE? The things I didn't like about the ARE I can just describe. The wedge look I think has been pretty well covered, but I certain see it in your photo from the last page and I saw it 10 months ago when I was making my decision. ARE uses a trim strip around the bottom of the cap that looks like an afterthought to me, as if they couldn't get a clean finish, slapped on a trim strip, stepped back and smugly said "nailed it". There's also the rear window, both framed and with little rivets. Lastly, the difference between the shape of the mold and the window bothers me. The mold comes to a sharp point at the back lower corner and the window is more rounded with a trim piece to make up the difference, that just bugs me.

Now I don't like everything about the Leer either, but I certainly find it more aesthetically pleasing:

What I don't like about the Leer are more small functional things that I didn't know before hand, and and likely wouldn't have for any cap. I don't like how far it extends down past the top of the bed, I don't like how downright shitty the sliding front window setup is, and the hold down setup slides over time (shitty design, although I appreciate how out of the way it is compared to larger clamp systems). I could probably come up with more, and my complaints may very well be mirrored on other caps. I like the way it looks and the price was right. I compared extensively against everything else being sold within a 100 mile radius (70 miles to the closest dealer to start) and settled on the Leer.

Look you are getting way to much into this cap detail the seperation between the bottom of your cap and truckbed is clearly more on your lear if you are happy with your cap than thats all that matters but to the original statemen your cap on the front top is still not perfitly leval

Man, seeing these pics makes me want one for my truck now. What difference is between the 2nd gen and 3rd gen. I take it a 2nd gen topper won't fit a 3rd gen... but by how much?

As I recall they raised the sides of the bed by 1", so a 2nd gen will stick up 1" above the cab. Also, the curved tailgate means you have to have something on the bottom of the rear window to match it.

Looks like it's not as wide either... thanks for the info as there are 2 leer toppers for 2nd gen on craigstlist for 800 and I thought about pursuing... but don't think I will.

I think the bed walls on the 3rd gen sit higher making a 2nd gen cap taller than the cab.
