I've been thinking about a cheap CB. Might be worth getting.

Cheap CB radio is fine as long as you get a nice antenna

A CB is something that you admittedly won't use very often but having one on trips like this with multiple other people is AWESOME!! Would highly suggest at least a hand held unit if you a full CB for those that don't have one

Good thing you got a couple weeks then!! We're talking about $100 for a decent setup that will basically last forever. I actually just moved my antenna tonight cuz I mounted it WAY too high on the truck to start considering I got a 4 footer. A basic hand held will cut it but don't expect much Dane with it and from what I've seen it gets more annoying picking it up and being sure to put it back where you can reach it.

A small radio, placed well out of sight, and a little time toying wires and you'll be able to grab the handset and go. Slightly more expensive than a walk around battery powered but in the end more powerful, easier to use and clearer reception in my experience

Im thinking about a Uniden 520xl. And 4 ft firestik. Just deciding on where to mount antenna. I like @Shmellmopwho tailgate one, but also like a ditch light mount.

If you're going with any type of mount even with the windows/bed I wouldn't go bigger than a 3'. That's where I've had my 4' mph red forever (top of the tailgate passenger side) and it was always a nuesance. I don't do it much but if I went into a parking garage I'd have to jump out and pull it down and beyond that it's just WAY up there and catches every tree
