Bed camping on a budget!

So yesterday, a few of my friends and I decided to go camping and I thought I would try camping in the back of my truck. I know there are a lot of threads about REALLY getting into truck camping and spending a great deal of money to really have a nice setup. I am in college so I don't have a giant pile of cash to spend or a garage full of tools to make something. Are there any tips/tricks/suggestions that y'all have that might help me out? I will be camping near Wilmington, NC so the weather wont be terribly cold and I am an Eagle Scout so I have a lot of camping gear already.

Build a platform setup. A bunch of guys in the over landing section just will just die it you as then for pics of there setup. It's basically bed length plywood + two by four's to add stability I am planing a similar set up. If you wanted to add cheap carpeting to make it look half way decent. Welcome to TW.

The easiest way is just using a cot, you can still store stuff under it, gets you up above the wheel arch, and you don't have to make a cumbersome platform.
