I'm looking to upgrade the stock non-touchscreen deck in my 2012 and I'm getting conflicting information about retaining use of my steering wheels controls. I'm not decided on a deck yet, but it will most likely be a Pioneer AVH-X3800BHS or a Kenwood DDX593BH. Will my Blue Tooth steering wheel controls still work, or will those be dead if I go with an aftermarket deck, even if I get the steering wheel control adapter? I've been finding conflicting information.

I want to upgrade my head unit but at the same time, I want to keep the Steering wheel controls, OEM USB/AUX plug and the Bluetooth.

TexS4, where did you end up placing your microphone? Did you attach an external mic?

I placed the mic just above the rear view mirror and a little to the left (closer to the driver's seat). The headliner is actually easy to unclip and reclip up by the windshield so you can tuck the wire and run it down the passenger A pillar, and then behind the glove box to the back of the unit. My Unit came with a mic and the wire was more than long enough.

If you want a picture of how it looks I'll be happy to snap a picture.

TexS4 (or anyone else that installed a double din HU), do you find glare on the HU screen to be a problem?

Reason I ask is that the dash seems to slope towards the windshield (it's not vertical) and looks like it may be exposed to sunlight...

    Anyone have that problem?

Due to the angle the radio is at there is some glare but with my Pioneer DA-120 that has a glass screen, the glare is not that bad at all. If you go with a unit that doesn't have a glass screen it might effect glare even more. There are also folks I've seen put a shroud over the top part of the unit to help shade the screen and reduce glare. Just search some threads on here regarding that.

Captain Obvious: I replaced my stock stereo right after I bought my 2012. I put in a Pioneer AVH-P3400BH. I used an ASWC kit from Crutchfield to keep my Steering wheel controls. I managed to keep them all EXCEPT the phone buttons (the call and answer buttons on the right side...I could not get them to program for me). Mind you I did this 4 years ago, so a newer adapter may very well work for the phone buttons now. Hope this helps...

Many double DIN radios have tilt settings. My Kenwood has one for negative tilt; so it can tilt "down/inward" and cuts glare.

Maestro makes a much better steering control interface kit. Used to have ASWC and it would have delay, switch on it's own, etc. iDatalink Maestro makes things just. like. stock.

Yeah...have been researching the Maestro lately and like what it does. My next venture, as my HeadUnit needs to be updated/replaced with a more advanced stereo...

I have a Pioneer AVIC-D3 in my Tacoma and looking to get a nice Double Din Kit for the 2012+. What are the best ones out there? I was leaning towards a Metra Gloss Black
