I opted for a com-bloc variant since I had a surplus of 7.62x54R and prefer the AK manual of arms for a fighting rifle.
This is a Romanian PSL with a pistol grip conversion (done by me) and a shortened barrel (done by Red Jacket before they were famous - this rifle was in their shop when the pilot for their show was being recorded).

It goes well with it's bolt action brother (modified Mosin M44)

From what I have read it's much easier to buy a 308AR vrs build. Usually no issues or compatibility stuff to work out.

The Springfield M1A's are amazing rifles!

I wouldn't say building an lr-308 is any harder than an ar-15. especially since they have become more popular. the dpms pattern took off so most everything is for that so plenty of options for it.

I've been kicking around the same thing. Could always do a AR styled bolt action like the Ruger Precision http://www.ruger.com/products/precisionRifle/models.html

Ran a couple of mags through my .458 socom AR tonight while playing in the mud in the tacoma. Man, I love shooting that gun. But it'll wear you out quick.

What difference does having friends outside of CA have? I assume those are still out of state and you didnt "import" them to CA

New BCG and buffer did it. Also found my gas block was loose so that could have been most of it. Shot 180 rounds through it today and shot flawless.

The FA BCG has more mass to it.

    LINK

BTW, M4Carbine.net (where the link goes) is a great resource for all things AR. Most of the members there are current or former military, LEO, and PMC contractors, so they have a plethora of relevant real world experience and knowledge. That being said, some members can be, well, dicks when it comes to people asking basic questions when a simple search would provide plenty of info.
