Love pretty much everything about my 16' Tacoma to the exception of the open door chime. I know I can avoid it by hitting the off button before opening the door, and I can stop it by pushing the plunger on the door. However, if I am listening to the radio with the door open I still get the damn chime. I like to listen to the radio with my door open when I am putting on my ski boots, rigging my fly rod, working outside, etc.

The most annoying part for me is that there is no way to completely disable it. In a 2016 $35,000 vehicle I can customize and adjust everything else from the seatbelt chime to how many times my blinker flashes when I hit the turn signal. However I cannot disable a feature that seems to have zero utility... I know my &!!* door is open and my keys are in my pocket!

My question is has anybody found a workaround for this. I would like for my truck to still know the door is open -dome lights, security, etc. The way I see it there are four routes to take this.

    1) Mechanical modification of door open plunger, perhaps a push and turn to lock, turn to release... Does anybody know the part number for this piece, I may buy a replacement to take to the workbench for a modification.
    2) Wiring modification- similar to what is done in this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/disable-door-chime-when-key-in-ingnition-2nd-gen.447372/ - Would like to avoid splicing wires and potentially voiding my warranty.
    3) Disabling the door chime speaker, not sure how it would be done in a 16' http://www.customtacos.com/tech.old/index.php?article=225
    4) Deeper level software modification. Don't even know where to begin with this...

taken from the Tips & Tricks sticky thread (a must read, esp page 1)

"The truck will chime if you open the door before turning the engine off and keeps chiming until you close it after exiting the vehicle. This can be disabled with the Carista app or the dealer."

Unfortunately that is not the case. My dealer could not find it, and it has also been reported elsewhere that it is not an option in techstream or carista. There is an option to disable the door beep when trying to lock the truck with a door open...

Yeah, that setting is definitely not available via Carista.

Hope you find something, I'd love to disable this as well.

Slightly off topic but you mentioned it in your OP, but how do you change the turn signal flashes? I asked the dealer about it when I took it in for the TSB and either they couldn't do it or "just forgot"

Last hunting trip need to listen to Feetsball game. Dinging very annoying
I folded a small piece of cardboard about 4 times (from Kokanee case) Jams into the gap between the black plastic wedgy and the ding ding button, holding the button in and stopping incessent ding dinging. Doesn't hurt anything if door gets closed accidently. Cardboard just falls out on ground. Saved the small piece of beer case for future use.

The attached PDF contains the techstream options, maybe bringing this form in will help the technician find the right menu...

cut the trigger wire that makes it ding when the door is open. lol

maybe piece of tape on the button that activates the ding?

doesn't it cut out after a few minutes? I never keep doors open that long while on but I know with my jetta if you do so it stops dinging after about 1min

In previous vehicles (been a while) I've located the "ding" box and just removed it. Is there a dedicated beep/ding box/speaker that can just be disconnected? Yeah, it won't remind you to close the door any more, but woop-dee-doo. All the lighting and other features would continue to work normally.

I could super glue the button, or unplug the connector etc. but I would still like my truck to know when the door is open and closed for dome lights and security. Super first world problem, but there is a lot I do around my truck where I am in and out with the driver door open, I know it sounds picky but in a technology enabled 2016 vehicle the inability to turn off a alarm that has zero purpose that I can understand seems like a huge oversight. If I can override essentially every other alarm including one designed for safety (seatbelt), this is pretty ridiculous....

Will do. I'll poke around for it this weekend. I have a home camera security system that used to ding all the time. Some kind of software glitch stating the HDD was full, but was recording/playback normally. I de-soldered the buzzer from the motherboard... 3 years later and no complaints :)

Sorry. My truck has been in the shop for over a week. Still no estimation on completion. Waiting on parts to come in.
