hey guys, new here. Could use some help.

Troubleshooting crank no start issue on my 2001 Tacoma v6 5spd 4x4.

Night before I ran the truck really low on gas. Tried to start next morning and got the crank no start.

Started with adding gas as it was really low. Thought it was possible I could have fried the pump. Adding gas didn't help.

Put my ear to gas tank and had friend turn key, can't hear the pump.

Checked EFI in under hood fuse box and Open relay under dash. Swapped them and both would make clicking sound when key was in on position. (What else should I check here?)

Also disconnected fuel line to engine and cranked, no fuel came out.

Then tested fuel pump power n ground wires with multimeter and am getting 12 volts.

Dropped gas tank and tested pump straight from battery, pump works fine.

What's my next best bet? Should I check for spark and how? I did shoot so throttle body cleaner and tried to get it started but no dice.

One thing to note is that my check engine light had been on for weeks, now with key in on position the check engine light is no longer on. Could this be an idication of the ecm?

    Will be standing by. Nick.

Are the coil packs working? There's 3 on the passenger side; see if gas will flow through the fuel filter too. Use dielectric in the electrical connections.

Tried your suggestions, cracked fuel line from filter to pump and turned key to on position no fuel was primed. Also again didn't hear pump.

Also tested for spark and plugs are working fine.

Am I missing any other relays or fuses to check?

Check your 20amp fuse & relay under the hood (drivers side right by the battery). Trace your wires (probably black / yellow wires) from the fuel pump to the fuse box & ECM.

Since you took off the fuel pump and it's working fine, it definitely sounds like a fuse/relay or a bad ground.

Wow. Can't believe it. Such a noob move. It was the efi fuse. I didn't see it on the fuse box map because mines slightly melted :rasta:

Thank you for all the feedback guys

Good morning Tacoburrito99, Anytime. Tacoma World is a great place, much knowledge floating around on this site. TW has pulled me through several times. Holler if you ever need anything.

FYI...Keep a few back-up fuses in the truck- the fuse box cover has a storage area.

Man I dug through every bit of troubleshooting and found another guy had swapped his relays on you tube. I tried swapping the power relay for the EFI relay and wham that was my gremlin for 9+ years gone! I saw this after fixing it’s long hard starts and I am glad to see others found this issue too!, thank you for posting this, it further reinforces what I found too, good job!

If anyone else has a crank no start, and it runs on carb cleaner... Applies to all Tacomas.

Check the connector under the driver's seat. It connects power from the fuel pump relay to the fuel pump. The connector is underspec'd for the blue fp wire, and is often burned. Also the white/blk ground wire gets charred.

It took me a while to figure this out on my 98 X 5 lug, but I did it. Had to extend the blue wire a little, after cutting away all the blackened blue wire.
The connector only serves one purpose, which is for the bed install at the factory.
