I have owned a 99, bought used, as of today I still own a 09 ac and have test driven a 16 auto but only did it to show the sales guy I was interested, and the 17 manual that I will pick up tomorrow.

    Just erratic idling
    Truck shutting off
    Not starting
    Numerous transmission issues
    Radio issues

Never said all third gens have issues. As far as the line at the dealer, I have no idea since I don't have issues with mine.
I don't think the issues are just in my head. Calm down take it easy and don't be so quick to get butthurt we are all toyota fans here

So we have 20 people and 17 people report problems on that site you have pics for with drivetrain and transmission.
    Confirmed. 0.0007% reported problems.
    Thanks !
BTW you know as well as I do that info was prior to the TSB for the tranny.
And it looks like a whopping 4 CPS failures. 0.003 %
3 reports for suspension / squeaky springs.:rofl::rofl:
I think people get the idea now what goes on here now seeing that link and stats.

I've seen the reliability polls and they don't reflect that.
Do you actually think that they still are putting out defective CPS's til 2018 ?
That's about the only real reliability issue that only a few had.
A radio reset because of probably an app conflict nor squeaky springs and glue in a hood do not count nor howling holes which there were 1000's of worthless posts about.
The other engine shut off was because of aftermarket hid interference.

OP, I have a 2014, 35000 mi with 0 issues. Worst thing was a squeaky leaf pack in the first 10000 miles. It went away on its own. 2nd gens up to 2010 or 2011 had frame corrosion issues. Maybe give it a year or two... if you can't wait, buy a 14 or 15 2nd gen. If you can't wait and want a 3rd gen... go buy a 3rd gen now! Worst case, you deal with warranty repairs. Maybe buy the extended warranty.

Even something proven will have its own set of issues depending on how picky you want to get.

All I was trying to say was the numbers in the screen shot, like 20 transmission complaint, there are more than 20 people on TW that have complained about their trans. 4 people on the screen shot complaining about drive train, more here on TW complaining than that.

I have nothing to complain about, but was trying to point out how those posts didn't really mean much.

I'm beginning to see a lot of 2nd gen owners on here posting about the few problems that some 3rd gen owners are seeing with their trucks. Why does it bother people so much on what they say, who cares what they say. I am super happy with the truck and can't say enough great things about it. I also don't see a short supply of new owners throwing down over 30k plus for a new truck regardless of these very small issues that affect less than 1 percent of trucks. If bashing the truck is your thing than great, I can't say enough great things about the 2nd gens cause they are great but the 3rd gen is just a completely superior truck and I'm sorry that some of you cannot see that. Tacoma sales keep increasing and each day we see multiple new members talking about the new purchase so it does not seem to me that these petty issues are influencing their decision one bit, I'm willing to bet that 90 percent of Tacoma owners don't even consider looking at the reviews or looking on forums. So please continue to provide negative feedback on these trucks because it has proven to work with the Tacoma sales so far, they might have to start offering 20 percent off msrp like other brands.

Just remember, going to a car site and not expecting to see repair issues, is like going to a hospital and not expecting to see sick people... Only people with bad reviews or issues post...

My grandfather bought one when the Dakota 1st came out. I bet he had his for close to that if not a few more years. He finally traded it for another new Dakota that looked blue and then in the right light it looked purple. It was auctioned off when he died in 2008. Someone got a darn good truck!

I've been in the car business for over a decade everything you're talking about is true, the only thing I think you're missing is that its nothing new. 2nd GEN Tacomas were held at port several times fixing issues, dozens of pre-delivery post-port fixes needed to be done, transmission oil was also sometimes low on several years of production, frame rust problems, rear leaf spring problems, when the 2012 refresh happened we dealt with countless misaligned hoods and body panels, when the new silver came out we dealt with excessive orange peal and even color corrected brand new vehicles until they fixed whatever was going on during production, all of this happened and people STILL lauded the 2nd gen as the most reliable truck you could buy. Same things are happening now with the 3rd gen and despite all the noise by some enthusiasts and early adopters I'd bet good $ several years from now Tacoma will STILL be the staple for reliability, everything we're seeing in service so far points to that outcome, our % of RO warranty claims hasn't changed, frequency of TSBs so far is equal to 2005, and remember that by early 2006 there had already been THREE recalls for the 2005 Tacoma.... we're at the same time period for the new 2016 and there's only been ONE.... So again, everything we're seeing now is actually better than what we saw the last time the Tacoma was redesigned in 2005.

The only thing different is we've seen an increase in software/multimedia related problems concerning Entune, but nothing even close to that was available in 2005 so can't really compare to the last redesign, and we saw the same issues when the first generation entune was released on the 2012 Tacoma, so again yes there's problems, but there's always been problems, nothing new.

Yeah but the only reason they are still on the in the cold snowy states is because they had to have there frames replaced. Far out ways any problem with the 3rd generations.
