    As long as my cylinder's aren't scored I may just rebuild this one unless I find a good motor close to the same price as a rebuild kit. I've been looking for a kit with some kind of performance cams but can't seem to find any there really isn't any kind of aftermarket internals for the 2tr Fe for some reason which is freaking frustrating

    Can't imagine a 4 banger truck engine would be a terribly popular platform to build a performance motor out of, thus the lack of aftermarket support. :notsure:

    Wonder how hard it would be to retrofit a 4.0L into it?

    Well they have a shit ton of parts for the the 3rz which is the older 2.7 and if I where to go to a 6 cylinder id rather have the 2jz I found for 1500

    Yeah, but if that's the 4 cylinder they put in the 1st gens like I'm thinking, it didn't have all that vvti BS to deal with, which is probably another reason there isn't any aftermarket support for the internals. (I'm assuming the 2nd gen 2.7s are vvti motors, but I'm not sure.)

    Anyway, I was just thinking the 4.0 because all the parts would bolt right up and you could probably just swap the bell housing out to make the transmission work (assuming there's a different bolt pattern between the two engines).

    I'm doing a lot of assuming here...o_O

    It does have vvti but you would think after 10 years they could of done something for it but oh well and not really sure about that with the 4.0 and I would rather have the 6speed for shits and giggles since it would be a direct fit. I was just talking with troy and he was saying it probably wouldn't be worth rebuilding I'll be better off just getting another motor

    4BT is weak. Need to wait until people have wrecked a few of those new Ecodiesels they put in those Ram 1500s. Those have some impressive numbers and you could probably squeeze 30mpg out of them in a Tacoma. ;)

    I didn't know there was someone other than me that hated the 4bt nonsense lol. It would definitely have the cool factor but unless you dump a ton of money into performance upgrades, like a 12 valve 6bt, then they are just big gutless boat anchors
