If you buy a lot of filters try FLEET FILTER as they use WIX and are cheaper than other suppliers.

Go to the dealer and buy a Toyota air filter. Eat the $5-$10 you MIGHT save if you buy aftermarket. And who's to say, in this day and age, that an internet "Toyota" filter isn't also a knock-off like so many other so-called "original" or "factory" parts...

(posting this in a few threads to try and get some info)

Does anyone actually know what the micron and flow rating is for any of these filters? I sadly tried looking but can't seem to find the info.

    Filters in question>>
    Denso / Toyota OEM | 17801-07020
    WIX | WA10085
    ACDelco A3397C Gold
    AFE
    K&N
(insert filter I didn't think of)

I don't trust my butt dyno and visual inspection of the intake won't tell one much in the way of how well 1 filters air over another (with the exception of extreme cases).

What loose information I do have is that Denso and Wix are kind of neck in neck.
They are both cellulose filters and based on tests in other vehicles seem to be about the same.

Anyway, just curious in case someone has that info as I'm just looking for hard facts/like to compare stuff.

I am sure if you keep searching you will come across the information. Look for filter tests.

It is always a fine line between to much or not enough filtration .

At the risk of starting another debate on the K&N filters vs MAF contamination, I have run the same K&N reusable/cleanable air filter since 2001. Cleaned it every 50k (as per K&N's guideline), and very lightly oiled it. I have not had any issues with my MAF, or other downstream sensors, nor have had issues with excessive dirt in my intake stream (The PCV valve/vent does enough of that on its own). I feel better about not throwing a disposable filter away- YMMV.

I see no problem what happens is lightly oiling can see vast differences between people.

1 person is a few ounces the next is measured in pints Going by the universal theory more is better.

Describe your very lightly oiling being this is the video age make one.

Wix or OEM, it literally does not matter, you are doing better than 95% of the general public by simply changing it. That said, new filters actually filter *less* than old ones, but new ones flow better, so keep that in mind. I use a filter minder behind my air filter now to gauge the airflow restriction.

I think there was a TRD branded filter for the 1st gen, pretty sure it was a K&N drop-in. There was a TRD oil filter, and brake pads too.. I recall the pads being performance friction pads, which you could obviously just buy for a 1/3 of the price at a parts store.

That would make sense, back in the day TRD use to offer a whole lot more than they do now... actual performance parts instead of the mostly cosmetic stuff they do these days (superchargers, TRD 7th injector, cat back exhaust, headers, etc). These days TRD is more just a look than anything really "racing" related.

The thing that I don't understand, is people adding "TRD" to parts they make or 3rd party stuff they buy. :notsure:

Those custom aluminum battery hold downs sold on here for example- It's a great product, very well made, but you can get it with TRD on it... I got one... but it's blank. Why give TRD credit for it? Who is looking in an engine bay going "man... I wish it said "TRD" a few more times in here". I mean, obviously, people are. but I don't get it.

Once I get my 3D printer maybe I'll make replacement rings for the deck plate mod and they'll say "TRD" in a few different places around them

Yup, I'm pretty sure I remember a TRD air filter, as said it was just the same thing as a K&N drop in. I remember the TRD oil filter, brake pads, headers, exhaust, trans oil cooler, & of course the supercharger. They even had a 160° tstat meant for the supercharger but didn't come with the supercharger. I still have 2 of them, one used one new. Anybody wanna buy em? :)

Yup TRD is pretty much dead, GR is taking over. TRD is basically like a trim package now. My truck says TRD all over it, even the battery tie down. :p:rofl:

Wasn't the TRD t-stat just a rebranded Corolla one? I think I read that somewhere on here

I thought it was crazy when I found out they offered a 7th injector kit for awhile with the 3.4l superchargers, I think they did a 5th injector kit too for the 4 cyl ones.

Someone the other day posted a photo of a TRD centrifugal supercharger, I forget what application it was for

Not that I remember. They were actually sold for 5VZs. I think I still have the TRD Tstat P/Ns in my computer. I still have the TRD Tstat boxes too. I got them back from CustomTacos days, before TW existed.

It will fit a 1ZZ-FE Corolla though. The stock OEM Tstat for the 1ZZ is 170°. That's what I run in my truck (not supercharged)
