Engine/transaxle fully installed! doesn't look too bad for a 28 year old car. Brakes, suspension, and exhaust are all that's left before she's drivable :)

last night I was able to close the hood/trunk (what do you call it on a mid engine?) for the first time in 6 months.

so then what do I call the front hood? houses the brake booster, clutch reservoir, wiper fluid, radiator, and spare tire....

quite a nest. car is too new to have the simplistic engine bay of the carbureted days, but too old to have the neatly organized, covered up and aesthetically pleasing engine bay of current cars.

I can't remember, but what do you have in store (upgrades) for those last remaining items?

if only more things were this simple....

e-brake is getting an overhaul. new cables and tensioners throughout, with a new leather handle boot.

rotors are getting swapped for a new set of cross drills with Carbomet pads

suspension new coils all of the way around, lowing it 1'', with shocks/struts valved to match.

exhaust is getting a cat-back with 2'' pipe, and a single in, dual out, ocelot muffler. the cat will go away as well, but I have to fab that up myself, and it's not a priority to get the thing on the road.

yep. even with everything being so small on this car, and space being tight, the suspension is certainly easy to work on.

Took a weekend vacation, so not much progress, but I was able to toss in the new pads and get the caliper bolted back up. These brakes are indeed harder than your average pad install, but with the specialty tool, it really wasn't bad. Onto the next side, to call the rear end done!

yeah, you can't just squeeze the piston back to fit the new pads. you actually have to spin the piston counterclockwise back into the caliper. the tool is a little cube with different size/shape/spacing prongs sticking out on each side. you pick the prongs that fit your piston and slap a ratchet on the opposite side and start spinning.

you can see the two opposing indentations in the piston in this picture, that the cube grabs on to.

Thanks! Goal is to drive it to my parents for thanksgiving, so I should have it on the road in the next couple weeks. That way I have a week or two to drive it locally and verify that it can make the trip.

Are you going back with red for the new paint job?

I had a friend in high school that had a Fiero, can't remember the year, but I always thought it was a neat little car!

This is similar to what my 1991 Isuzu pick-up had on its rear calipers.
