The kitchen pantry and laundry room are good places to hide things. Buy a small fireproof money box and store it at the bottom of a box of laundry detergent (make sure it is completely covered by detergent). I have never seen a thief take the time to do laundry while robbing a house...

Also, if you have a big dog it is always a good idea to put up no trespassing signs and beware of dog signs so you don't risk being sued if a thief gets bit while snooping around your property.

Meth addicts want to steal things that are small, easy to carry and easily pawnable or sold.

I'm sure you feel violated but I'd try and keep in mind they are usually after whatever is easy to get. They're not the kind to break in silently and tie you up in bed while they take everything they want.

The real danger would be if they thought you were manufacturing or selling and they wanted to take your supply from you, which is unlikely to happen randomly.

We had some heroin dealers move into a house behind us and the brought a lot of sketchy traffic with them. I provided the police with license plate numbers of the regulars and put up security cameras.

I see a niche for some Poison Oak extract

I bought one of the Ring stick up cams off Amazon. Really happy with it. Live monitoring is free - hooks up to your wifi - recording costs $30 per year. Works well in night and day - motion activated, so it doesn't record constantly.

Just a bunch of old crap
A quick trip to the yard and chambering a round while shining a bright flashlight in their face usually does the trick. Crooks need opportunity in order to complete the theft triangle, so take that out of the equation for them.

Beautiful dog, and probably the most effective of all suggestions in this thread.

We're in the same boat . . . out in the country, 500 foot driveway with a locked gate at the end and surrounded by woods full of briars. Gigantic PITA to get up here.

OP, the only addition to everyone's suggestion I have is a super bright flashlight to stun and blind the lurker when you confront them. Did this at a house I rented years ago along with some yelling and it worked well. My old two barrel 20 gauge hidden behind my back was backup but thankfully no need to use it.

... and don't leave a ladder out where someone can use it to enter an upstairs window, bypassing any first floor motion or glass breakage sensors.

If you have an alarm, never install a control panel where it can be seen from outside. Nothing like the bright green light of invitation the one time you forget to arm the thing.

A couple of dogs is still a great deterrent. Remember the primary goal is to make the potential thief think someone else's place is a better idea than yours.

Check out how this person hid his safe, but could also be used as hiding without a safe too.

I got the same (amcrest 720p) and my box has to have wired network. you can buy a set of powerline network adapters that run your ethernet through your electrical socket. I have my system mounted above the washer/dryer with an ethernet cable running up from the same electrical socket. You can call the cable company and generally get a set of these powerline adapters for free if you complain of spotty wifi.

Some great ideas in here! Thank you guys!!!! You have definetly opened my eyes to things I haven't thought of.

Just an update. I have been on a mission trying to hide all of the items that can easily be toted away and securing outside doors and frames. Working on a couple of secret spaces to hide some of the Power tools. I've called every neighbor in the vicinity.

Got some lag bolts for the safe now Im looking for a large enough concrete drill to get through the foundation. It would take them an hour to get it out without the lag bolts. But my guns are number 1 in my eyes.
