I wouldn't be worried of that. But I know of at least one person who had their tailgate stolen in the bay area, so I try and avoid buying certain used goods off CL. It may be virtually impossible to avoid buying stolen goods if you ever shop CL, but certain items I avoid to better my chances (e.g., I never buy used powertools off CL either. Friend of mine whose a contractor had his equipment that was chained and locked stolen from his job site. It was a professional job and I hear that kinda thing is pretty rampant in our area).

 

Yeah that makes sense. I hate how the Tacoma tailgate is easily stolen. Did they fix this on the 2016-17s?

 

They make special clamps with a security bolt to keep the tailgate in place. Like $20 tops. Its like the cheapest insurance you can get. Or go super cheap and just use a pipe clamp. Plus my Pop N Lock, totally not worried about missing a tailgate. And if they are THAT motivated to steal my tailgate, fuckin have it, you're probably breaking something to get it anyways. Just means I get a Tiregate earlier than expected.

 

even ford, Chevy and dodge are just as easy. pipe clamps cost a few bucks and take only a few minutes to put on. the guys that steal tailgates are all about being quick. if it requires a tool they will 99% walk away. my uncle has his Ram tailgate stolen in grocery store parking lot.
