Sand bags helped the ride definitely, but not with the smacking of the bump stops

I'm confused because I'm pretty sure removing the 3rd spring would soften the suspension because it is a rising spring that is under tension at all times, and the overload is only engaged with a load of big hits

I'm definitely going with the Dakar pack, just still unsure if I should remove one of the over loads or the 3rd. I'm looking for the best ride possible unloaded and no more than 2" higher in rear

I believe you would lose some spring rate with the 3rd leaf removed.

If you're doing Dakars I would leave them alone for a while and run sand bags in the rear. Let it break in before removing anything prematurely.

I removed the 3rd leaf on my Dakars. Ended up with 2" of lift over the stock 2+1 OR leaf pack. Rides great...very balanced with the Fox 2.5 coil overs and better than stock IMO (no more bottoming out on speed bumps or with 100lbs of stuff in the bed).

With a full pack Dakar, you may run out of travel on your standard King shocks.

I've experienced with a few Dakar combinations: 2 leaves removed, 1 removed, to none removed. For your height requirement, I would remove just the 3rd leaf from top. It will give you a softer ride, and a lift of around 2.25" once it's settled.

I currently have King shocks with full Dakar, 10 ply tires, and it's a little bit stiff, but not terrible as you describe. Maybe you can ask to have the rear shocks revalved to your liking.

You might try some Superbumps. I still have stockers in the rear, but I have Superbumps up front and they really made the limp noodle stock suspension a lot more pleasant hitting harsh bumps. I'll do the rear when I upgrade the pack.

another thing to be aware of with the dakar packs will be the enhancement of the taco lean, mine was very very obvious. the dakar leafs come with either a '+' or '-' indicating they are high or low end of their tolerance. if i were doing it again i would insist on one of each, not a matching pair, then install the '+' on the driver side and the '-' on the passenger side.
