I think a soft cover would be the best bet for your needs.

Hard trifolds are good, but more expensive.

    I purchased a Leer Trilogy X2T

I ended up getting the BakFlip G2. The dealer did the install and covered the labor, I paid the difference of what I paid for the OEM cover and their cost for the G2 which was very fair IMO. It hasn't rained since the install but I did run it through a car wash. It leaks but not nearly as bad as my OEM. When I get some time on my hands, I plan to run a bead of silicon along the bed rails underneath the BakFlip rails similar to what was described in the MX4 thread by Boomerang.

    Bakflip MX4 Prelim Review

I really like the flush for of the BakFlip and it is lighter than the OEM.

None yet really. Fold-a-cover G4 Elite tonneau cover. Will get new tires...
Looks great! I'm interested to hear how the G2 does with respect to any leaking after you add the silicon. Appreciate a pic of where you are installing the silicon if you get a chance. Thanks.

I plan to do basically the same as in the link to the MX4 thread, the trouble will be finding time to do it! So if you don't want to wait, click that link, he says he is leak free!

I have factory tonneau and love it so far. Depending on how the truck is sitting, rain has come in on the gap between the side rails and tailgate because the tonneau does not cover that top seam all the way. I don't expect 100% dry conditions in the the bed though, especially in every situation and with snow melt.

May not be for some but I decided to go this route with a fiberglass Tonneau cover.

I had extang fold 2.0 on mine it was fine cover, still have it for sale. Not 100% leak free you'll see some water drops here and there from time to time.
One thing I would mention if you get one make sure that you don't overtight "main panel" when attaching to the bed or you might end up with sagging panel. I got two dents on both sides. Got lucky and I got replacement panel from factory.

The Gator FX5 looks very similar to the BakFlip G2. I also thought about the FX5 but given the similarities to the G2 and the fact that my dealer only sells the BakFlip, I went with the G2 since they were buying back my OEM cover and taking care of the G2 installation labor. If I had ordered the truck in the first place without a cover and was buying on my own, I would probably have gone with Gator.

That's a fact. They are not 100% leak free. Mine is about 40% leak free. When Extang releases the new seals and sends me a set, I would be happy if mine was 70% leak free.

I have a BAKFlip MX4 and after much grief - it is completely waterproof after three installations. This is what we did to achieve the perfect installation and we live in one of the wettest places on the west coast in British Columbia. Since completing this three weeks ago it has poured with rain and we have a perfectly dry cover.

    This is what we did:

After removing the entire BAKFlip MX4 we started the lengthy process. We used GE Black Silicone II with a life time warranty and a 30 minute set up time.

Warning, we did not use an impact or power tools on these T30 head bolts. The metal is soft so we used hand tools to remove and tighten. We needed a screw extractor to remove one of these bulkhead screws from the previous installation.

After the Toyota bulkhead rail was removed, we also removed the factory installed seal. Yes, it leaked through this. We used a BAK Industries 1/8 inch seal cut in half and installed then added silicone as well. We also used the BAK Industries 1/8 inch seal - full size - on the top side where the Tonneau cover panels rest on.

Now the bed rail from BAK Industries. Remove the plastic drain plugs on the cab end. Get a round file and remove the burrs on the metal drain holes. Take the plastic drain plug and on the end, place a 1/8 inch seal. Take the silicone seal and secure this so that no leaking can occur. Reinsert into the bed rail. Turn the bed rail over and run a generous amount of silicone along the entire length where it sits on the Toyota rail. The more the better.

Install and tighten. Wipe off the excess silicone that will come off the side edge. Now take your silicone and seal both sides of the end caps on the bulkhead and every place that has the potential to leak near the cab.

Set the BAKFlip MX4 panels onto the rail system. Go underneath where the bolts are tightened (don't do it yet) and seal with silicone the areas where you see light coming in. You will need a kind person with a bright mag light to shine from the outside to expose any light on the inside.

Seal it up. Complete the installation with the panels and tightened the bolts.

By the time you are finished, from the rear tailgate you should not see any natural light coming into the front corners.
