At least according to my 16-yr old daughter, who will be driving it at least part of the time. And I have to say I agree.

I just bought a 2012 2wd Access cab SR5 that has the stock 15", 5-lug steel wheels. Tires are in great shape, but the truck sits too low and just looks bad. I was thinking of going to 17s but I'm not sure what tire to get, or if I'd be better w/16s. I don't want it to mess up the ride too much but gotta make it look better than this!

Also, are adapters (5-lug to 6-lug) a good or bad idea, and why? There are lots of 17s out there guys have pulled off pre-runners or whatever to go big, and I'd be perfectly happy with a set of those, but would need the adapters.

    Thanks!

Not much you can do with a 5 lug truck. They are purely utilitarian on good roads.

It was designed as a grocery getter, and it does that job very well.

I hate to tell you, the Daughter is correct.

Spend time in the 5 lug section. There are reasonable options.

I would not use the 5-6 lug adapters. I'd use wheels that fit properly.

Running a 235 x 75 tire will give 1" of lift as well. And be beefier looking.

While the style I chose might not suit your taste, here is an idea of how I accomplished mine. With minimal impact on the drivability of the truck. Big tires change the effective gear ratio, and mess with the speedo.

I'm more of a lifted truck guy but lowered trucks can look great too. What color is the truck? I say you lower it and get some 18"s or bigger.
