I have a new set of rock sliders sitting at home waiting to be installed. My problem is I work on the road, have limited time at home and I'm starting to think I may not have enough time to get the coated before next weekend. Should I wait and be patient? Or are there any other products that I should diy at home that are comparable?image.jpg

I refinished a rusty used Pelfreybilt front bumper. Sanded it down, primed with rattle can Rustoleum steel primer, then painted it with Rustoleum bed liner. It's been super durable and came out great. Also, the sanding was by far the hardest part, and you won't have to do that in this case. That said, I don't step on it regularly, which you might want to do with the pretty fill plates on those sliders.

I have been reading up on Raptor coating by Upol. Seems like the best DIY bedliner-style material. I plan to do my front bumper and sliders.

I ended up using rustoleum primer and then rustoleum spray on bed liner and they turned out amazing.

Powder coat is over-rated and chips and rusts, and professionally applied epoxy bedliner as well. Buy some primer and rattle can EZ Liner and call it a day. You'll save a $100 or more, touch ups are dirt cheap. and maintenance is easy as you can keep them looking new without taking them off the truck to refurbish.

I used etching primer and rollback chassis paint as I wanted to be able to touch my slider up easily. a special touch I did was bedliner on the fill plates to give them a texture and painter over that with the chassis paint to blend in

I'd clean the metal to remove all oils, prime with POR-15, scuff with a scotchbrite pad, top coat with spray on bedliner.
