Hit and run. Looks like I'm going to be shopping for a rear bumper. FML

Welp, I stopped at a place to grab a quick bite to eat today. When I left I heard what sounded like rubbing. Pulled over and it looks like someone decided to smash the back end of my truck and leave. The mud flap was rubbing on the tire and luckily I was able to bend it back and drive back. No cameras and pretty much I'm SOL. I deploy in two weeks so any repairs will have to wait until I get back. Hate the thought of leaving it like this, but life happens I guess.
The rear quarter looks toast though. I remember seeing some rear bumpers that have an extended piece that goes to the fender flairs. Anyone have a name on those? Any recommendations would be appreciated. Trying to figure out the best way to tackle this so I end up with a decent looking truck again.

With a high clearance off road bumper, you'll cut all that shit off anyway.

 

that sucks, sorry to see that. There are several different styles of rear bumpers out there that you can look over while you are deployed and depending on how much you want to spend you can probably keep the rear panel and repair it to look decent again without having to replace it.

I say go with a high clearance bumper as well. You may have to straighten out the very bottom of the bedside after its cut as the area that remains is just above the bottom of the taillight. Considering that the bedside will be free on the bottom and not constrained by the lower portion of this, this shouldn't take much effort to straighten. Also, by having a high clearance bumper you can have more functionality on the trail and will likely prevent this crap from happening again as the other guy would likely just mess his shit up at this point.

I know its not ideal for one of these moments to take place, but I think the higher powers have decided that its time for a HC bumper. BTW, I helped a friend install this on his superwhite 2010 Taco...real easy process and not nearly as bad you might think. Just get a grinder, ruler, and some painters tape and take your time. There are some good write-ups on here for cutting up the bedside.

Another vote for a HC rear. I banged up my stock bumper this summer and ordered a HC. keep in mind lead time for a lot of shops is 2 months or so... don't wait till you get back from deployment to order one

Yea, it was a budget Mexican restaurant. Good food, but not the nicest establishment so no cameras.

 

Check out SOS Concepts in Charleston, high clearance rear, closer to you if you wanted to save on shipping could make a run for it. lead time on them so I would order before you deploy if you can

 

I've seen those. Nice looking for sure. Wanting to keep the fender flares and find one of the bumpers that stops just before them.

 

If you are going to sit on it like this while you deploy, best to spray something like Fluid film or some similar product on it inside and out. If the paint is cracked or chipped in spots it will start rusting rather quickly. When you get back you will have to deal with a rust issues as well as bent metal. Then again if you are cutting the metal off for a high clearance bumper it will not matter much. Just my $.02 worth.
