Yes. I did cut it a few weeks ago, lol. I realized after cutting that I should have cut it off years ago and just have my local welder weld up some square tubing until I could afford a proper bumper like Billy's. The increased ground clearance is remarkable.

You're right! One day truck will probably go to her.

You know, you could always list your current bumper for sale, and when it sells, go to HC. Just a thought!

Indeed. Billy is a master at his craft. Everything is perfect. I'm very pleased with his work.

 

Okay here is:

Weighed by me personally in my home laboratory, with a digital certified scale (not), procured from one of Wally worlds finest retail stores.

HC rear bumper with the following options:

• Cutout for lights
• 2.5" reduction on wings for additional clearance.
• One (1) Spindle added for swing out gate.

130 lbs.​

Swing out gate with provisions for a dual Jerry can holder

47 lbs. (not including handle, estimated at 1 lb.)​

Dual Jerry can holder

• 10.47 lbs.

Fabricated bolt on Spare tire carrier (with forward cant)

• 7.57 lbs

Aluminum Fold down Table.

• 6.29 lbs

Please note that Billy seemingly has changed his design on the swing out, so that the tire carrier is completely height adjustable by the customer. The tire carrier can separate from the swing out gate. IMO, this looks like a beefier, stronger (and heavier) design, than in the past, and is modular as well. I can mount anything I want using the many 1/2" bolt holes.

All my metal bits are at sandblaster / power coat. Will post final mount pics whenever I get it done.

Excellent experience dealing with Billy. Rear HC bumper w/ dual swingout spindles arrived within 2-3 weeks of his initial estimate and he promptly mailed me the lights he forgot to bundle in the pallet. He called every couple weeks to keep me in the loop, final product is beefy & well made. Install was straight forward, hardest part is getting the nerves to cut into perfectly good sheet metal. Used some fender trim from @trailtoys to cover my crappy cuts.

 

Really digging the bed cage. Anyone have pics? Going to add this to my list of things to get.

What kind of lights did you buy from him?

 

The 2x2 LED pods that mount in the rear cutouts... they were relatively cheap, no worries about fitment with the cutouts, & will light up the rear plenty well for my needs considering I'll mostly be viewing it through the blurry backup camera at night. I highly recommend installing any lights or accessories prior to mounting or else you get to contort yourself under the truck while playing a game of 'thread the screw using only the edges of your fingertips' intermixed with a couple rounds of 'where he the hell did that screw go' .

I wound up moving to the west coast less than 3 weeks post-install, so i haven't gotten around to running interior switches yet, but they look well made & don't have any signs of fogging after ~7 months of getting dragged x-country through Moab & now perma-mist in Oregon.

Love your build thread, its extremely well thought out & I have a number of your write ups saved on my never ending to-do list

I asked Billy if he sold lights back in August and he said no. He said people can buy them cheaper than he could provide them. I did get the light cutouts on mine, and one day I'll put something there.

 

My post might be premature, but I am now under the impression that Billy might have been wrong when quoting me the spec above.

I think his HC hitch design protrudes into the spare tire space by as much as 1" more over stock.

I'll be attempting to hoist my spare into place to check fitment in the next 24 hours and report back.

A tape measure this morning told me it aint gonna fit.

For those of you who have put their gates on,

Is this the correct configuration?

Rubber seal with long part down,
bearing with taper up,
then gate
Then bearing with taper down,
washer,
nut,
cage lid.​

Does that sound right?



How tight do you torque the spindle nut? I had to go get a socket it's 1-7/16".

I received no instructions, so any help is appreciated.

 

the way you described it is how I did it. the bottom bronze/rubber seal should be nearly flush with the bumper. pack the bearings real well with grease prior to install.

as for torque, billy just mentioned tighten until the swingout wont just fall open, but still moves.
