A friend of mine just picked up a Silver 2003 1st gen with a long bed :bananadance:. Hes driving it from Vermont to Chicago suburbs, then from there to Jackson Hole WY. He's looking for a topper and open to purchasing along the described line of travel. Told him I would post on here to help him out. For the first gen tacos, would a topper from another truck/make fit? Or does it NEED to be specific to a long bed 1st gen tacoma? While I'm going here, I might as well ask, is anyone selling theirs? Thanks in advance!

    ...we'll get there.
You'll need a truck-specific topper. He'll be looking for a topper for a regular cab, or an xtracab. the doublecabs have a shorter bed.

most toppers are designed not only for bed dimensions, but for the profile of the back of the cab.

the reg cab first gens are more vertical at the cab, the xtra cab is more sloped. you will want want for an x-cab reg/long bed, not the short bed.

when i make driving trips I look at cragslist for the designated route and plan :D
