So I'm moving to Anchorage in February. I bought an engine block heater and an oil pan heater. My question is is it possible to splice the two together into one plug? This way I have one plug up front and only have to plug it in for both components. I tried searching but couldn't find anything. Thanks for any input. Here is a drawing that I'm sure a 5 year old could've done better to "help" out.

First off, where in Alaska? You won't need one really in Anchorage. In Fairbanks you might. Just get one of those 3 to 1 120V plug in adapters from a hardware store. Thats what everyone uses with more than 1 heating device. Zip tie those wires out of the way and you are good to go.

    Something like this.

It "could" work. I would worry about the balance of the current draw between the two heaters depending on how you hook it up. This first assumes you have enough wire gage inline to handle the combined current.

I'm moving to Anchorage. I was told different things from different people so I figured to play it safe and get them. Worst case I don't need them and my oil and engine block are warmed up anyways.

These are the two that I'm getting so since it seems you are much more electronically inclined than myself, how can I make it work safely?

Then I want to combine them and use this plug for a nice, clean look.

I'm extremely excited about it! Also better yet I'm in the Air Force so I'll be getting paid to move, and live there!

I can't find amp draw on either .. just make sure you're comfortable with your electrical skills before splicing wiring together, I wouldn't imagine both of those pulling more than 10 amps total.

I'll do some research on how many amps they're pulling. What would be a safe max to keep in mind?

Probably 10 .. I wouldn't do anything more personally. The oil pan heater pulls 1.01 amps according to ohm's law.

Depends on how well you manage your finances really. Also depends on your plans. I'm an air traffic controller that will be out in 4 years and go civilian to make A LOT more money.

Awesome, thank you. I'll keep looking into the engine block heater. So as long as that number isn't too high, to connect the two together should be as simple as positive to positive, negative to negative, and ground to ground, correct?

For Los Anchorage, your better off getting a security system or the club or something :)
