I have a 2010 tacoma 5 speed reg cab 2wd 2.7 and when it idles (when ac kicks on) it makes a annoying rattling sound that will stop when i either push in the clutch or hold the shifter towards a gear not into a gear but put pressure on the stick towards any gear. It doesnt seem to be affecting anything just annoying. Any ideas?

How many miles? Does it sound like something in transmission/clutch? Could it be a throwout bearing dying which would cause the flywheel or clutch to contact each other.

    Just a thought.

85k now but has made noise since i bought it at 60k. I would say its in the transmission but it only does it when the ac compressor kicks on. Gears are tight clutch works fine.

It's common on the 4 cylinder. Dunno what causes it but mine has done it for 50k+ miles without a problem

A guess, but you could have a bad AC compressor clutch. My 97 Olds did that same thing..automatic though.
