I bought a 17 Tacoma 2X4 double cab TRD Off Road and had it a month now. Took a 400 mile trip, mostly interstate, running between 70-80mph and ended up with 15.9 average. I had a full size Ram with a Hemi and averaged 17mpg. So much for the new 3.5 engine getting better gas mileage than the 4.0. If you you drive between 50 and 60 miles per hour, sure, you will get about 21mpg, but you will get run over on the interstate if you go less than 75mph anywhere in this country! Just venting here....

It takes a few thousand miles for some reason before fuel economy improves.

This is true. It will improve, but not by much.

It is weird though. I went from 15.5 to 18.5mpg in my first 2500miles. took about 1500 before it really started going up.

You're also not going to get very good mileage going 80 in this truck. There's a pretty big drop off from 70 to 80 in mpgs

I'm just over 1000 miles right now, maybe it will get better. Also, I was running 32 pounds of pressure in my tires, it came that way, so I just put it at 36 pounds, so maybe that will help.

That's odd, a six speed transmission, should be better, all newer vehicles are made to drive 80+and still maintain decent gas mileage. My 2014 Hemi truck did! And my wifes 2014 5 series BMW gets 28mpg at 85 mph, my 2015 corvette gets 25mpg at 80mph.

You're comparing apples to oranges with the BMW and corvette vs Tacoma

No matter what they do, it is still physics, the vehicle can not magically make energy.

What does the Beamer get at 55? What does the Vette get at 55? If I was really concerned about gas milage, I would not buy a truck, I would look a small tiny fiat.

    X2

If you bought the taco for MPG, better trade it in now to get the most value.

The manual actually does worse than auto. I don't shift up nearly as much as the auto does. people are getting about 3mpg better in their autos vs my manual

I only have a little over 1k on mine but it's doing worse than my '00 4.7L Tundra at 75mph by a full 3mpg so I do hope it improves when it loosens up a bit. It is a truck - so I'm not expecting miracles but closer to 20 than 15 would be nice.

I bought the truck because I need a truck, I have 2 other cars, but the wife drives the BMW, the vette is just a toy and the truck is my daily driver. I sold my Ram truck because it got such poor gas mileage and I like the Toco's much better, but Toyota adversities 24mpg hwy driving, which is what I do the most, which is BS on Toyota's part. I sell GMC trucks and their trucks get the gas mileage they advertise! Toyota's don't! So, I'm pissed because Toyota lied, not because I dislike the Toco, it's a awesome truck, just piss poor gas mileage for a V6 engine compared to bigger V-8 engines in bigger trucks.

This is true. I've got 8,500 miles on mine and the worst gas mileage is highway mileage. Anything above 65mph and no-flat roads I'm lucky to see 14.5mpg.

I've been toying with the idea of trading the Taco in 2 years for a Canyon diesel. I bought my Taco in July/August, and I've already got 8,500 miles on it. More than likely 18,000 miles in a year. If the Canyon stated mileage is correct, I'd erase the cost difference for the diesel premium in short order..

Takes a while for all the drivetrain to break in, especially on a 4wd.

    Just keep driving it man.
