I am starting to see some signs of corrosion on the terminals and bracket and would like to disconnect the battery, clean the terminals and install some NOCO washers to reduce corrosion. I have a NOCO Settings Keeper (a 9v powered device that plugs into the cigarette lighter jack that is suppose to retain radio and ECM settings) but I tried on my wife's Honda Fit and it didn't work as expected. I don't know where I put the Tacoma's radio code, so I really want to avoid locking it. Does anyone know if I need to have the key in the accessory position when using the settings keeper?

Those little 9v battery deals don't usually work on newer vehicles, the ones that do work use a jump box and plug into the OBD port.

I recently swapped batteries on my '14, didn't use a memory saver, and the vehicle retained all my radio presents, Bluetooth link, etc.

I run jumper cables from one of my trolling motor batteries for when I swap batteries or do terminal maintenance.

    1. attach jumper cables to trolling battery
    2. attach jumper cables to somewhere on the positive terminal other than the part that goes around the battery terminal and the negative to ground somewhere.
    3. keep in mind the terminal is HOT (electrically) so DO NOT TOUCH GROUND ANYWHERE ON THE TRUCK WITH THE POSITIVE SIDE
    4. clean, replace or whatever battery maintenance you need to perform at your leisure.
    5. put everything back then disco the jumper cable from the truck.

I've done this method for years. I used to attach the jumpers to a motorcycle ( easy to park beside the truck) and once I attached to a tractor battery.

The 9 volt plugged into the jack will work as long as the jack is connected to the power circuit. In other words the key needs to be on the position that normally provides power to the jack socket. ON

That is probably why it didn't work on the Honda Fit.
