In the market for an 07-12. Should I only buy one with a new frame?

I am shopping for a 07-12 Tacoma. Hopefully I will pull the trigger next month. I live in Virginia where they salt the roads for winter. Browsing trucks, some mention having the frame replaced, some do not. Should I only buy a truck that has the new frame? I believe he TSB recall for frame swaps has some limitations.

I am afraid of buying a truck that will need a frame replacement in the future.
    Any advice?

    Thanks

Head to NC and find one from the piedmont. I don't trust rusty frames and I don't trust dealerships to replace them. Also remember only a few need frame replacements. Minimal rust is ok just do your research.

In the US, the recall period is over for the frame replacement.

In Canada, we still have till December 31st 2016. But the stipulation is that you have to own the vehicle (registered in your name privately - not commercial or business) for MINIMUM of 30 days Piror to inspection in order to qualify for the replacement -- IF your vehicle qualifies.

That said, it does not hurt to have a nice shiny new frame, thats' for sure. But there is no reason to pay extra for one with a new frame either. After all, these trucks hold their value too well and we're really overpaying for them to begin with IMHO.

If you do buy one with an original factory dana frame, I would have it checked over thoroughly. I checked mine with a screwdriver for soft spots last week and I couldnt see anything wrong with it ( from the outside). When I brought it to Toyota, they tested it with a sounding hammer and said it qualified for a free replacement.

Frame replacement is much more rare down here in VA, NC, TN then up north. I have around 20 2nd gen tacomas around the shop from time to time and only one has needed a frame replacement. It was bought in Troy MI and not a southern truck.
