Anyone else with a Flowmaster muffler have a hole in the bottom rusting out?

No. Mine's 100% stainless steel with a lifetime warranty. A regular steel one doesn't make any sense when the price difference isn't all that much.

Unless you live in the salt belt. Then they're trashed in 5 years tops.

    Salt rots stainless steel?

    Yep.

You can google 'flowmaster rust' and see some pretty crudded up mufflers. Just because it's stainless doesn't make it a super metal. There are varying grades, and the bigger temperature variation coupled with the millions of tons of salt that get chucked on the roads in the great lakes area will corrode zinc alloy, stainless and aluminized steels without much hesitation.

    So yeah. Stainless rusts.

Lol. Just ask google if stainless steel can rust.

Hmmm... I did a google search for "Flowmaster stainless steel muffler rust" and could find no pictures to confirm it. There were just a few anecdotal references to stainless surface rust, but there was no written or photographic evidence of any stainless rust out holes.

Can anyone post a pic of a rusted out stainless muffler?

There were plenty of pictures of rusted out regular steel Flowmasters though!

I'll take a pic of mine after work. It's noting major, just a small rust spot on the bottom side directly in the center. I've had it for about 2.5 years.

Anyone have any thoughts on the LCE proflow exhaust for the 2.7?

Negatory. I've got Flowmaster Super44 (muff only), but have heard some 2.7s with a couple of different Magnaflows in person. Sounds good when parked and revving the gas, but while driving, doesn't sound too good.

I can't wait to go back to stock. It was cool for the first two weeks, got old real quick.

The flow master 44's I heard are really loud compared to the magna flows though.

Yup. Choosing the right series is tough. Best to find someone with it to hear it in person, it might sound good on YouTube but not in real life.

Full LCE exhaust includes magnaflow muffler. Sounds good to me for a 4 cylinder.

Gone over the Top for a 5-lug..
Got parts going on my 5-lug Tacoma soonish - on reading through this and other threads - i had decided upon an exhaust system refresh. Thanks to all that have gone before with testing out various exhaust combinations, and reporting their subjective results. Tooter's threads especially, are Gold.

I have just recently had the Cat/midpipe Toyota Campaign Replacement done on it - and the OEM exhaust is now 6 years old. In the salt-belt, i'm not sure it's going to last much longer. I figured that i'd move on the rest of the exhaust system.

I ordered a Magnaflow 22" 12586 muffler back in August, when i saw it come up on sale. I also put an order in for and received the LCE Pro-street header in the past week, to finish off the major parts needed to squirrel away, and get it to the shop and everything nailed together.

For the purpose of my 2wd access cab 5-lug version (99% commuter) i wanted something subtle under lower RPM, cruising conditions - drop it down a gear and hitting the loud pedal, I'm hoping for a bit of an authoritative growl and hopefully a shift in the torque curve... I'm too old to be ricing it.. but something that says not stock, and i'm not playing, would be good.

I will in turn, report on results. I'm having a good muffler shop do the install.

May sound like a dumb question, but is the stock pipe diameter supposed to be 1.5"? Before and after the muffler its the same size. 98 2.7 Prerunner:confused:
