Hello Taco World! I'm new here, and new to the Tacoma. I bought a 2000 4 banger 5 speed off a buddy of mine, and I have a new niggles to work on to get her running and driving right. First order of business is the gear shift. I can't find 5th or reverse. Buddy says the pins on the shift retainer are worn out. I pulled it apart and I can see they are a bit worn and slightly bent. I'll host a few pics I took but the camera doesn't really pick up the bend. The part looks to be about 75 dollars online. I'll head to the local dealer tomorrow to see what they can do for me. What do you guys think? Should I just replace the the retainer, seat, and bushing, or is there more going on here? It shifts 1st through 4th no problem.

Thanks for those links. I think I will order those 2 parts regardless. They look like good upgrades. Any thoughts on the pin that is bent upwards? Would that prevent me from shifting to 5th and reverse? I suppose I could just order the parts you posted, throw it all back together and see where that gets me first.

I couldn't find second because I have a bolt that sheared off inside the trans that connects the fork to the shift rod. Hope you don't have that! I rebuilt my R150F and it wasn't cheap.

    Just a quick update:

I decided to order the parts meatman suggested and they came in today. I wanted to let y'all know this fixed the issue. 5th and reverse are no problem now. Shifts much better too. I can now see the bushing (socket) was probably the main culprit. The new bushing fit much tighter, where as the old bushing was real loose, although it didn't want to come off. The old seat didn't seem too bad, but this new one is much nicer and will last much longer.

    Thanks for all your help.

I really appreciate you posting those links. I wouldn't have known about them otherwise.
