Nepaug State Forest (New Hartford, CT) at 10am. We have about 8-10 Tacomas and a couple jeeps planning on going. see below...

Sunday 11/6 wheelin' trip to Nepaug State Forest. Looking like a potentially awesome turnout! As far as meeting location/time, it looks like there is a diner super close to the trail entrance we can meet at. Head into the forest at 10am.

As far as communication goes, I've never been on a large group trail ride, so I don't have a CB and don't plan on having one before Sunday. As long as the leader and someone in the middle and rear have radios (CB, 2-way, whatever) we should be alright I would think.

Here is a link to the trail map. Satan's Kingdom is supposed to be a pretty good ride, and has a badass name. The rest of the trails look great too and probably have plenty of little offshoots for us to try.

Are these going to be a stock height with skids friendly trails?

Yup! My jeep has 33s on stock suspension and I think a lot of us are on the same page. Nothing too crazy, just looking for dirt/mud to have fun on

Can you see if there are more technical sections there as well? Just wondering what type of trails they have there. Thanks, hope you guys have fun this weekend!

I'd imagine since it's just a state park with dirt trails there isn't any rock climbing, probably just some mud

There's a few climbs between the power lines section if I recall correctly. Also one SUPER crazy decline/climb depending on which way you're going. I don't know if I remember where it is thoug, if you're adventurous. Once I get in there I may start to recall

@themajewski the Satan's Kingdom trail has a section that runs through the power lines right? From pictures and videos I'd say for the most part the trails are mild-medium, probably not any major rock crawling other than a few rocky sections. I think there will be a good selection of terrain for us to have a solid day of fun. Supposed to rain tomorrow which should give us some mud to play in :bananadance::mudding:

I don't think that that is the power lines. They look unmarked, But hard to tell from the map. I've always entered Nepaug using Ramp Road since that's the closest for me.

If you use Google maps and use satellite view you'll be able to see a tiny strip cut out through the forest and that's where the power lines are.

Well if you look on google a bunch of the trails cut across the power lines which means we should have easy access to the power lines. Not sure how legal that is though... probably wouldn't look good if 10 trucks are wheelin on illegal power line trails haha

Last couple times I was there I almost thought I was going over at 2 different spots but I'm not sure if they will be the same trails or not. I usually have a good time down there

In the northeast all power lines are private property and wheeling on them is trespassing.

Looks like a nicely organized trip dude, I think you got all the protocol just fine  I wish I could make it this weekend, but @Darth_Yota and I are stuck on an island, its difficult to make the quick weekend trips, as we have to coordinate ferries and sleeping arrangements which can be a lot, both time and money :facepalm:Hopefully, we'll meet up for some wheelin' soon, you Jeep guys are ok in my book! (@BostonBilly ) Just keep the Fords out of it :crapstorm:

Right that's what I thought. So idk about you guys but I'm not interested in wheeling illegally. There's gonna be plenty of legal wheeling to do :burnrubber:

Oh yeah there are plenty of places where the trails intersect and you can see the power lines to your left and right with clear paths to get on because many people go through them. As long as you're not trashing stuff and getting reckless I've had no issues with anyone saying anything. I've wheeled the whole length of power lines before with a buddy in his Jeep but we were younger and reckless

Hopefully the gate to get into Nepaug is open, depending on which way to go in. I know the one on Ramp Rd can be closed sometimes. Not sure about other entrances.

That's why I called last week. They said the gates will be open. I was thinking of starting at the north end of Nepaug and going south through satans kingdom as our first run

Kind of embarrassed to ask this but here goes. Seeing as this will be my first time out what should I make sure I have with me? I know I won't have major recovery gear with me but just want to make sure I know what to bring.

No need to be embarrassed man! Basic recovery gear is helpful, such as a strap, spare tire, and a shovel... but with a few people going there's going to be plenty of equipment to do whatever might come up, and you might not even need those things! Recovery points are nice as well.

But if you want a list, this is what basic gear I keep in/on my truckall the time.

    Recovery strap
    Shackles (recovery points)
    Jacks (bottle and hi-lift)
    Shovel
    Spare tire and lug nuts
    Air pressure gauge/valve stem remover
    Mini air compressor
Little fire extinguisher, and a big one

I have a few more things I always keep in the truck in case of emergencies, but you really don't need much.

Great idea on the spare lug nuts...I've got quite a few of those kicking around in the basement I could add to my stockpile. I started compiling a second set of basic tools to keep in the truck all the time. I even have a little compartment for electrical work too.
It may be starting to get a little out of hand actually.:anonymous:
