Have 2008 V6 Taco. 84000 mls. Engine predetonates (pings) under hard acceleration. Just started.

    TRD air filter assy. Electric radiator fan assy.
    2008 V6 2wd Tacoma. 84000 mls. Engine recently started predetonating under hard acceleration. Been using same gas since new. What causes this? Thanks for any info.

    Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
    Plugs could be out of gap, damaged, or fouled - that can cause hot spots leading to predetonation. When is the last time the plugs were changed or inspected? Could be carbon deposits in the combustion chamber, which will also cause hot spots and lead to predetonation.

    From there, it could also be one or more faulty injectors (insufficient fuel delivery), bad O2 sensor giving crappy data to the ECU, slowly failing fuel pump, or unmetered air entering the engine (that last one should trip a check engine light, though). If you have an OBD-II reader, you may want to hook it up and see if the ECU has set any pending codes.

    I think you are mixing up your terms. Here is a good place to understand the difference between Detonation, Preignition and Pinging.
