this is the start of a log on the dash iPad mini install

    I bought one of these

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/iFDR-Aircraft-Panel-Flush-Mount-for-Apple-iPad-Mini-Mini-2-Mini-4/252402240310?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIC.MBE&ao=2&asc=40293&meid=758c3c0d3b8b4b1bb536101e6daf69a9&pid=100005&rk=2&rkt=5&sd=252419637447

    Trimmed the sides of it.

Removed the front radio dash piece and trimmed it.

Used Jbweld to secure it in.

This is just a project that I started and will be updating.

As for an amp, I ordered
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BF6HXA8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    And for iPad interface
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GP3PB4G/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Could go with wifi or Bluetooth backup cam. Don't think that I can do anything to get the steering wheel controls to interfaceIMG_2961.jpgIMG_2959.jpg IMG_2952.jpg

The factory radio in the SR is basic to say the least. I never listen to radio and use my iPad for music anyway.

The dash piece is an easily replaceable piece of plastic. No cutting is being done to the truck. I want it reversible, just in case this has a humble end.

    Wow!
Great skills. Don't take this as a criticism, but it would like
great with a black bezel on the iPad.

Looks good, but that's more brave than me.

Are you using Bluetooth to your phone as a hotspot for the iPad?

    I contemplated it, but a few things holding me back;
    1) No Vid input to retain OEM backup cam
    2) Won't integrate with OEM steering wheel controls
    3) Can't retain on-screen info in instrument cluster.

Other then that, an Ipad is awesome idea

Great setup. I really want the mirroring plug and play cables I've seen on here for this exact reason so I could use the radio for car features but give the me mirroring for the iPad iphone type features.

You can't mirror Apple iPad or iPhone without jail breaking. That opens too many worms.

As for the radio/vehicle on screen info, I had the lowest radio in the SR minus any info.

There are ways around the steering wheel controls, I just haven't figured it out yet. Using at BT remote would block the phone using the iPad as the speaker phone- using hotspot wifi linking the iPad and iPhone for calls.

Backup cam, I never had one before and still don't look at the screen. I may do the wifi camera with an app for video.

I am thinking of getting everything wifi. Setting up a laptop USB router for all devices to link to. Link the phone IP address in the router as your internet gateway. And all devices work like being home on your network. Add USB hdd for extra movies. Hmmmmm..

    TP-LINK TL-MR3020 3G/4G Wireless N150 Portable Router, AP/WISP/Router Mode https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00634PLTW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_8PfhybB6XV14E

I am going to play with a spare router and set up the mobile network this weekend. The amp and wiring arrives Sunday.

Actually you can mirror an iPhone and IPad and do not need to jailbreak ... you just need the right cables. We have done this for years at our office with auxiliary cables on TV's.

This cable is plug and play to mirror on your current radio and no need for jailbreak of device. Video is included in the link. http://www.beatsonicusa.com/if02ep.html

Hmm I guess I'm pretty late on this but I'm actually getting an iPad to add to my truck, I was going to try to set back the radio 1" do you think there is any room back there to do that ?

there might be, but the iPad dock would block the radio controls. unless you mold your own iPad dock.

the iPad is better than the stock radio by a long shot. The amp setup and wiring was not worth it. The stock radio with the iPad works well.

I just took my ellipsis from Verizon and put a piece of Velcro just above radio and Bluetooth connected it to my radio in my Sr and I have everything I want (nav ,movies, surf internet, internet radio) and it works with steering wheel controls. And I can flip up for backup camera. And I just take it off when I get home or when I park it.

Reminds me of when I built a carputer for my Xterra 10-years ago but with a much more elegant solution. Streaming music has come such a long way in the interim.

Yea you're right I'm just going to have to get rid of the stock radio and put a basic pioneer deck with Bluetooth so I can use my steering wheel controls, I mainly wanted to keep a screen for the back up cam but I think I'm just going to add one of those review mirrors with the screen on it for that
