Gen2 front discs

I am getting tired from the OEM break discs warping from nothing. Is it just me? Do you guys know if there are any good aftermarket alternatives?

Would love to solve the issue permanently.

 

I bought these. So far so good. I had brake pulse within 30k miles with the oem setup. These pads and rotors are pretty good for the price. There are other pricier higher quality set ups, but I'm not racing the truck, just wanted the rotors to last longer. The bite from these are stronger than the oem.

Get ready for the you don't know how to drive responses. Been a couple threads on this issue that have some good info in them. I was having the same issues as you, I went to an ebc stage 4 kit with slotted rotors and everything has been great since then.

 

I always stick with centric blanks. Wagner just released a new black coated rotor w/ OEX pads made for trucks. I'd probably go that route.

 

I baby my truck and have brake pulse at 32K. Thought I was crazy but it seems like other people have this issue. It's not major to violently shake my steering wheel but I can tell it's there.

 

Mine got very violent. It was so bad it was like driving on a wash board road when hitting the brakes.

 

Ebc stage 5 for a few yrs here

 

I been doing pretty good on the centric 125 series high carbon rotors. I'm going to look into switching to the DBA rotors soon

 

I've experienced this as well and I'm not at all hard on the truck. If you drive in the mountains at all, even if you work the gears properly, you'll want a better rotor and pad setup. Might look into the EBC kits like others have mentioned when the time comes again. My OEM setup lasted to 100k but by that point it was pretty wobbly with regards to steering wheel feel.

 

X2 for the Amazon Power Stop package, I got mine for about $120 to my door for a scratch/dent warehouse deal, braking is smooth as butter now. I had a panic stop the other day on the freeway that actually came short by about 1 car length when I was puckered for impact.

 

I went with StopTech Cryo Slotted Rotors and Power Stop Z36 Pads, no complaints.

 

Are replacement pads for that kit available in auto stores?

 

X3 on the power stop package. Got mine on Amazon as well from the scratch/dent section on amazon. Wanted to upgrade my brakes and rotors when I went with bigger/heavier tires. Awesome stopping performance. Stops 285/70R17 Mud tires without a problem. Definitely worth it.

Brake pulse usually just means they need a clean up. Not likely warped.. If the stearing wheel is shaking from side to side when braking, then they may be warped.. But if it just feels like the brakes are kinda on/off/on/off/on/off real fast.. They just have a dirty or rough spot on em.. Sometimes caused from todays abs systems. Get em turned and call it good. My 04 chevy does it and its had drilled and slotted rotors since new. Still eventually gets to pulsing, and just needs a cleanup.

 

Just had my front rotors/pads replaced at 55k. Got to point I could barely control the wheel on steep descents when braking.
Hopefully these last a little longer

 

It uses the stock caliper so any stock replacement pads will still work. I'm sure these pads aren't great for the price of the total kit, so when I need new ones I'll probably get a better-known brand (EBC, Hawk, etc.)

 

I was always warping my rotors. Maybe it's all the downhill roads from the mountains. But I got tired of cutting my rotors again and again. I got some rotors from r1 concepts. Premium line. They're meant for harsh driving. And the guy said they will be impossible to warp. Hasn't warped yet. Matched them up with the trd performance pads. Lots of brake dust but stops on a dime sorry about the pics. They were screenshots from my snap chat a lot of brake rotors that are drilled are just usually regular cast rotors and they drilled the holes. The premium line has special metals/ high carbon so it can take the beating
