    I have a four 1911's, all .45

    Ruger SR1911 Stainless
    Ruger SR1911 Night watchman
    Kimber Warrior
    Rock Island Armory Tactical

Ruger night watchman is my fav by far. Micarta grips, trijicon night sights, adjustable match grade trigger... all stock. Here's couple pics of both the Rugers.

I apologize in advance for kind of thread jacking, but I'm looking to buy a 1911 myself. I was looking at the Kimber's, but then the Sig Scorpion caught my eye. The guy at the gun shop I go to seems to like the Springfield Armory and is a bit biased with what he recommends. I wouldn't be using it for any sort of carry, just some shooting at the range. Recommendations anyone?

You can't go wrong with Springfield Armory. I recommend the Range Officer or the GI model for a range toy the money you save can go to ammo etc.
The Colt competition is also very nice for under $1k and both companies back their products. Ruger 1911s are a good choice also.
I do recommend the Wilson Combat Flat wire recoil spring kit. I use it in both of my Wilsons and in my Colt Delta Elite very good mod for short money.

See a lot of Kimbers and Sig 1911s used for short money in my area that tells me something.

I love My Springfield Loaded Operator. Springfield Armory is a very good company with outstanding costumer service. Kimbers are cool but too pricy for what you get. My friend paid the same amount for his kimber that I did for my Springfield and mine has much nicer stuff. tacticool rail, night sights, better grip safety. as for accuracy they are both tack drivers. couldn't say one was more accurate than the other they are both well made firearms.

Kimber quality has been lacking for awhile. FYI same guy that ran Kimber into the ground now runs SIG their QC has been poor and they are outsourcing parts.Sig 1911s have different slide dimensions FYI. That might be a factor in holster options.

I have had a kimber ultra carry 2 for 15 yrs now. It cost me $1000.00 back then. I have put 2000 rounds through it and not 1 single jam. I did get it to jam once and i was playing like in the movies and tried to release the slide super slow so no noise and that didn't work but it was my fault. Best dam gun i have ever had and actually it has worn out 3 holsters now. I keep it clean and oiled always, I never put it away dirty after shooting it. I can field strip it in 15 seconds! best damn gun i have ever had period.
