Hi, I am a new member. I have a 2006 Tacoma Access Cab/2wd/4cyl. I have noticed that when the blower is turned on for the AC it sounds like there is a "slapping" noise. Almost like a rubber band slapping and then catching. It always happens when I start the vehicle up and then turn on the air conditioner and/or if the AC is turned on and I start the truck. The best way I can describe the sound is a rubber band slapping. It goes away once the AC is on and does not continue to do it. It only does it when I turn on the actual blower for the AC. I believe i just noticed it also with the heat. So I am not sure if it has something to do with the fan that blows the AC/heat. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I will check today, is there anything else that it could be. Somebody had mentioned to me it might have something to do with the "clutch" for the fan/ac. It can be loud when it first does it.

The noise happens right when I start the truck and then about 1-3 seconds it makes this "slapping" noise like something is finally engaging. It only happens when the blower is turned on inside the truck. If the blower fan is not on it does not make the noise.

I found this description on an old thread, however the member has not been active since 2012. This describes the noise well though.

"I've been noticing a LOUD belt shutter lately produced the A/C turning on after my 09 Sport has been idle for several hours. Since I have a manual, I thought it was the clutch but i have come to find out it is when the A/C engages under the hood several seconds after starting the truck. Has anyone else had this issue? Anyone have any suggestions for a correction? Thanks!"

Turn the blower on high with the a/c switch off. If it still happens, you probably just having something sucked into the intake like mentioned above.

Ok so when the blower is just turned on it does not make the noise. When the ac button is pushed it makes the noise that I had mentioned only about one time. It sounds like something winds up and then "slaps" in place. So when the blower is on it does not do it but does it when the ac is turned on especially when the vehicle has first been started.
