    Hello all,
I have a 4 cylinder automatic 2014 Taco and am thinking of putting a camper shell on it. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this regarding the power. I've never really felt under powered or anything except maybe when i'm driving up mountains but even then its just a matter of slowing down a bit so my RPMs arent so high and the engine isnt straining as much.

That being said i am wondering what you all think adding the extra weight of the camper shell would be like.

Camper shell as in truck cap?
Or real camper in bed of truck?

I have 4cyl 5spd access cab on 265-70-16 tires with a leer cap.. i have no issue with acceleration.. :notsure:it's slow like all my 4 banger civics use to be.. The newer ones like my wife has are way faster than my truck:annoyed:

I had a Gen 1 4 cyl for 13 years with a ARE cap and the cap made no difference.

Yeah just a truck cap, so maybe 200-300 extra pounds. Thanks for the input!

My low rise leer cap on my first gen 2.7 4x4 5 speed didn't make a difference. It was slow before and it was slow after. It's about 200 lbs so like having a passenger in the cab, you wouldn't notice that.

x2 on this, i have a leer 100r and an ARB bumper on mine and it doesnt seem to have made much of a difference on power.

If i had an automatic id probably be much more conscious of the weight i add, but since i have a manual and can make it do what i want, i havent really worried about it. Id say its about like having another passenger or two in the truck

Yup - A standard has an advantage, but swisscow41 says he has an automatic... to make matters worse mine is a 4X4 so I'm really at a disadvantage....It does make me drive slower so that's a plus

It will weigh about 200-220. Throw a few bags of concrete in the bed and drive around and see for yourself.
