All those sensors only makes you lazy. Whenever I drive one of the "smart/technology cars" I disable all the sensors and whistles. It's annoying to listen to it. :p
Turn your head and you will be fine, it's a small truck after all.

    yes... yes it sure does.
But to its credit it has alerted me to whenever a car was speeding through my neighborhood before I even got close enough to backing out of my driveway onto the street.

Absolutely worth it. Once you have these features on a car or truck you'll never want to go back. No matter how attentive and experienced a driver you are, there's always some jerk zooming up on your right, hovering in your blind spot, or walking around a parking lot looking down at his phone instead of watching where he's going. It's just like an added layer of safety and convenience. Get it. You won't regret it.

No. You don't NEED them but you might have to pay for them anyway. The way Toyota stack options you will end up with them if you want heated seats, climate control or a moon roof. It's pretty irritating actually. You can look over your shoulder and into mirrors for free. They fall in the "Nice if they were free but they aren't" category for me.

I bought a DCSB TRD OR MT and all I wanted were heated seats... but that would cost me about $3k and came with a ton of crap I really don't want like periphery sensors and JBL audio. I'll stop now before this becomes a pointless options package rant. I took the MT TRD OR package, added towing and I'm happy without all the nannies. It saved a ton of $ that I'll use to buy bed extenders, moto ramps, kayak ramps and beer :)

Another thing to keep in mind is that while you may not feel the need for them now, think about keeping your truck for 15 or 20 years. Chances are 15 years from now your neck and back are going to be a little stiffer and swinging your head around isn't going to be as easy. And over those 15-20 years there are going to be times when you're driving but just really tired. And your cell phone is going to ring while you're changing lanes. Or your spouse is going on and on about something. Or your kids are in the back misbehaving. Why WOUDN'T you want a little more protection?

I agree it's not something op or anyone actually needs but it's nice to have as a backup safety option. I don't think it's actually that much money when added with all other options. Compared to other vehicles on the market, these options are almost standard so it's nice to stay with the time and have a few nice options, these trucks are not cheap so why not spend a few extra bucks.

If I'm doing my job as a driver it isn't "more protection" it's a thing telling me something I already know. It also costs money for something I don't feel I need based on 35 years of driving, wheel-to-wheel racing and not backing over any toddlers or side-swiping traffic. My wife's Subie came with it and I find it to be a distraction I've tried to ignore while driving her car. Having the mirror constantly flash at night in busy traffic when I know there is a car there and will be all the way home on both sides because it's rush hour is damn annoying. I turn it off.

I don't fault anyone for wanting to try it - but I have and I do not find it to be valuable.

I back out of parking spaces in the middle of a busy downtown a lot. It picks up cars I absolutely could not see without creeping back into the street. I definitely love it.

This is my first vehicle with it. Now I don't want to drive one without it.

The rear cross traffic alert is great. It picks up cars well before the camera does. this is especially helpful when backing out. I don't only rely on these systems, but I do use and trust them!

I really like 'em. It's an added insurance policy. Especially when backing out of parallel parking. The system will detect incoming vehicles before I can see them.
