I have a 2014 Tacoma with the tow package and purchased/installed a Tekonsha PowerTrac controller, and the plug-and-play wire adapter for my truck. Bottom line, I have no power coming from the truck on the black ("battery") wire at the factory plug. Everything else checks out (good ground, continuity back to the 7-pin plug, 13.5 V from the stoplight switch when brake is depressed). Am I missing something? Is there a magic Toyota switch to 'activate' the tow circuit? The two fuses related to towing are good - any ideas out there? Thanks!

Are you testing it with the ignition on? That's the only time that wire is hot, not even in the accessory position.

Yes...motor running (I should have mentioned). Although I hate to, given that there is the factory tow circuit/plug, but bypassing the plug and running in a new hot (from the battery, I guess) is the solution. Thanks for your question/suggestion.

Most prewired trucks ive had need a relay or circuit breaker plugged in to actually get power. it's an often overlooked step.

Thanks Indy - I have suspected it is something like that, but without another forum member having this exact issue and knowing which circuit, I am stuck. This weekend I bought an auto-reset circuit breaker, and plan to bring in a new hot from the battery (through the breaker).

Its sometimes listed in the owners manual, usually its prewired through the under hood fuse box. once it's in the circuit is live. but I've never installed anything but lights in a taco.

Thanks Indy - it never occurred to me to look in the manual - Doh! I don't ask for directions either...
