Packing up to move and I found an old canon point and shoot camera in my closet, I've been looking into NV because it's a cool idea and it would be useful for varmint control/walking out to the deer stand before daylight.

From the research i have done all i need to do is disassemble the camera, remove the IR filter from in front of the sensor, install another filter, and reassemble, I would also need to build an IR light emitter.

I would like the emitter to have a range of 50+ yards which would make a maglight my top choice to convert to an IR emitter but i want a bigger beam than what the maglight would provide. So I'm thinking about DIY'ing an IR emitter, run off of DC and I happen to have a couple of LED DC light bulbs.
Has anyone here built a reflector for a light? I've never done it and I haven't researched doing it yet.

I have seen some vids on this before.

FWIW the old camcorders can be had on craigslist for very cheap and also had this capability.

I found a forum in the UK all about this type of stuff.

    http://nightvisionforumuk.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=14204

    Lots of good info there.

Went ahead and ordered a cheap illuminator to see how it does and if I can see well with it I'm gonna see how I can mount it to my AR as the red dot on it is NV compatible, then I'll try some night shooting and see how much the muzzle flash from 556 out of a 7.5" barrel will blind me at night.

I don't have any NV on my AR Pistol but with my Noveske Flaming Pig on the end of a 7.5" barrel I can see a fireball when shooting indoors with the lights on. I can't imagine trying to maintain my actual night vision with a fireball flash 2 feet from my face. The other side of the coin is that 1 shot 1 kill means who cares if your eyes are ruined for 10 minutes after [IMG] [IMG]

Here's my GF with my AR pistol, not the best quality because it's a freeze frame from a video. Can't wait to see your results!
