Which wheels are lighter? The factory 16 inch steel wheel or the aluminum, by how much, enough to make a difference in performance or mpg?

I'm sure there's a difference, but I don't remember either being lots heavier than the other. I swapped my steelies for OR wheels for looks rather than performance, and any weight savings were likely offset by heavier tires. (...Michelin M/S2 over the factory Dunlops).

Pretty sure you wouldn't be able to measure any performance or mileage change from a wheel swap alone.

16" steelies are around 32lbs, whereas the 16" alloys are around 23lbs.

Trying to get best ride and fuel as I can. Stock size tires, lowest rolling resistance. Tom Did you switch from steel to aluminum? Any noticeable changes?

I haven't switched, yet. Mine came with steelies, and until the tires wear out, I'll probably keep them.

But I've heard that the steel is stronger then alloys, which is important when off-roading.

Ride was tremendously improved by better tires and road force balancing. Very smooth and quiet up through highway speeds and beyond. I didn't notice any dramatic mileage difference though.

I don't understand your reply McGuire lol. If I'm just on average roads and highways, stick with 16 steel, or switch to 16 aluminum?
